The weather was nice, the lights were on, and both home and away crowds brought the noise tonight as these two teams went toe to toe at each other. The game was intense as the San Juan Broncos came out victorious with a 46 -38 win, so let’s see the standouts from tonight’s monster match up…..
Parker Synder QB,FS / 5’8/ 180 lbs/ San Juan Jr.
1st year starter Parker Synder was battle tested tonight against a good Layton C.A defense and did not disappoint as he put up 4 passing TDs and 1 rushing. As a passer he has a good quick release and accuracy as he can hit his targets either in the pocket or on the run. Has a good burst as a runner allowing him to pick up speed as he runs, and shows he has good pocket mobility and awareness to avoid the pass rush. Experience will only get him better so make sure to keep an eye on him.
Magnum Neilson LB,HB/ 6’1/ 180lbs/ San Juan Sr.
Neilson is a 2A 1st team All State linebacker looking to repeat last year’s success. He is a tough physical linebacker that plays with good awareness in the tackle box and has good change of direction to move sideline to sideline. Has the athletic ability to cover in zone on pass plays and is physical tackler stopping the run, in open field and can impose his will on blitzes. Any college looking for a linebacker with his size and physicality will not be disappointed when you look at his tape.
Malik Johnson WR,FS /5’11/ 170 lbs/ Layton C.A Sr.
Johnson made 1A 1st team All State as a cornerback and was the spark the Eagles needed to keep them in the game tonight. He’s an athletic player that shows good explosion and speed making him a tough ball carrier as he tough to tackle after the catch. Shows good vision in the open field allowing him to make big plays. Johnson was able to show his awareness and vision tonight picking off Snyder’s pass for a pick 6 so don’t go looking pass this young fella.
Jessaia Moala Jessaia Moala 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Layton Christian Academy | 2023 State UT LB,HB / 6’1/ 210 lbs/ Layton C.A Sr.
Moala showed his toughness tonight by getting injured during the game, yet he continued to play at a high level and rolled with the punches. His physical frame allows him fight off and avoid blocks in the trenches allowing him to impose his will on the ball carrier. Has the athletic ability to change direction and make plays in the open field and in the tackle box and has good range going sideline to sideline. A physical runner that shows good burst to hit the hole and can be hard to tackle.
