Practices are in full swing, and players are getting themselves into “football” shape. At the same time, new and veteran coaches are figuring out what may or may not be working for them. Whether it is the drills they do, or the scrimmage games played coaches and players are fine tuning their games on the regular. In this series I will be covering as many schools as I can, from as many different classes as I can. ln this article we will take a look at the class 6A Jonesboro Hurricanes.
John David Carter #10
QB
C/O ’23
John David Carter displays great poise while in the pocket. At 6’2″ 185lbs, Carter has the arm to beat you deep or to get the ball in a tight window. Also, Carter can beat you with his legs. It is definitely a luxury for a team to have a quarterback who is a calm in the pocket as Carter. He seems to not get rattled, even when the odds are stacked against his team. John David also shows solid ability to escape the pocket and reset himself to make a throw. Whether on the run, or standing tall in the pocket, John David Cater is ready to lead the Hurricanes to battle this season.
Brock McCoy Brock McCoy 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Jonesboro | 2023 State AR #26
RB
C/O ’23
Brock McCoy Brock McCoy 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Jonesboro | 2023 State AR is a human wrecking ball. Brock stands at 5’10” 170lbs and is a fun player to watch. McCoy is a true “downhill” runner that also displays great finesse. Whether he hits his gap or he bounces to the outside he always gains yards. McCoy is also extremely hard to take down, always keeping his feet and legs pumping forward. Brock is a legitimate danger in the passing game as well. When Brock gets the ball good things tend to happen. He and his Hurricane teammates look to make some noise come this season.
Frederick Giles Jr Frederick Giles Jr 6'4" | 215 lbs | DL Jonesboro | 2023 State AR . #9
DE
C/O ’23
Frederick Giles Jr Frederick Giles Jr 6'4" | 215 lbs | DL Jonesboro | 2023 State AR . is a man amongst boys on the football field. Giles has a nastiness to his game that I love to watch, and that coaches love. Frederick stands at 6’4″ 225lbs and displays great explosiveness off the edge. He shows great finesse when handling offensive lineman and is relentless when chasing down the ball carrier. Frederick always finds a way to make a play, pretty or not. Giles is disruptive and knows how to throw off an opposing offense. Look for Frederick and the Hurricane defense to shut down opponents this season.
Tony McKay #8
CB
C/O ’23
Tony McKay is a big hitting corner that lives for contact. At 5’11 170lbs McKay seems to put himself in good position to make a play on a regular basis. Whether playing in the slot, or even lined up at safety, Tony displays solid vision and good tackling ability. Have I mentioned how seemingly fast he is when watching his tape. McKay literally flies around the football filed. McKay, his skills, and this Joneboro defense are going into this season ready for battle.
