Continue ReadingWelcome to the 2022 season everyone. We have finally made it after the long off season and the wait was definitely worth it. This season I am still doing my top3 games but we are going to change things up a bit. Each game will get a match up between two players on each team, and of course there will still be a recap from the previous week’s games. Last season was a ride and we had a ton of great moments and great championship games. This season has a ton of great matchups and a lot of teams got amazing scheduling that helped build onto the rivalries that have developed. That is one of the coolest things about Nebraska Highschool Football, Even though some teams switch classes often they still get to play their rivals and they easily develop new ones. This season is going to pop off and I cannot wait for each game that I am able to see.
Week 0 Recap
Last week we had some great matchups for week 0. We had North Platte taking the long ride to Papio-South in a great match up. The game was close until the Titans defense held the Bulldogs to an scoreless 3rd quarter leading them to take a 35-21 victory over North Platte. North of the Metro we had a shootout between Fremont and Columbus. The game was a shoot out from the very beginning with a score and response after every score. The Discoverers defense held off the Tigers in the 4th quarter allowing Columbus to score and win the game 28-21. Then we had what was the most hyped up game from Week 0 Bellevue West @ Creighton Prep. This game was like a boxing match with the Thunderbirds taking an early 21-7 lead, but the Junior Jays weren’t ready to quit tying it up in the third quarter. Eventually the T-Birds would go out on top 28-21.
Top 3 Games of Week 1
Westside @ Creighton Prep
One of the most anticipated games of this year and a great matchup. Creighton Prep’s second game In their brutal early schedule and against another one of their in town opponents. Westside’s opener is coming off of a great season last season finishing 11-1 falling in the state championship. Creighton Prep got to show off some of their skills in their 28-21 loss to Bellevue West in the Week 0 Season opener. In last weeks game the Junior Jays rushed for 296 yards and only threw for 53 yards. Last season the matchup between Westside and Creighton Prep lead to a 22-8 win for the Warriors over the Junior Jays. Westside scored 17 points in the first quarter. Creighton Prep’s defense held Westside to only 6 points the rest of their game along with a safety in the 4th quarter. Sadly for the Jays their offense wasn’t able to do much against the Warriors Defense leading to the 28-3 score.
Player Match ups
RB Jahmez Ross Jahmez Ross 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Omaha Westside | 2024 State NE (Westside) RB CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE ( Creighton Prep)
This running back matchup will be legendary. These two are some of the best backs in Nebraska and they have some of the best offensive lines there to defend them. I think this duel will be entertaining because of the speed and power these two players bring to the table and their teams. Last season Jahmez went off rushing the ball 64 times for 472 yards and 4 touchdowns. That is an average of 7.3 yards a carry and rushing 67 yards a game. Along with that he received for 65 yards and another touchdown. CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE is our top running back this season and for good reason. Last Season he ran for 1067 yards averaging 6.9 yards per carry and an average of 118.6 yards a game. Brown scored 15 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown totaling 16 total touchdowns last season. Brown is a beast and when both of these teams square up it is going to be fun.

Highlights
Lakeview VS Ashland Greenwood
This is one of the top games for class C1 all year two of the top teams will be playing against each other and they did not play each other in 2021. Last season Ashland-Greenwood finished the regular season undefeated 9-0 sadly they would fall to Pierce in the second round of the playoffs ending the season with an 10-1. Ashland-Greenwood dominated their schedule for the most part last season outscoring their opponents 346 to 106. Lakeview kind of came out of nowhere last season they won their first game against Boys Town. After that the Vikings took two losses in a row, first to Pierce and second to Wayne. After that Lakeview went on a revenge tour after their loss to Wayne outscoring their opponents 420 to 135 even getting revenge on Pierce beating them to win the State Championship 37-25. This will be another fun and great matchup showing off how great C-1 football is.

Dane Jacobsen Dane Jacobsen 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Ashland-Greenwood | 2024 State NE is a solid QB in his games this season Dane has passed the ball for 1,519 yards averaging 94.9 a game on 110 completions on 170 pass attempts. Dane scored 19 touchdowns in the air. His air attack combined with the grind of the Lakeview run game Ashland-Greenwood will dominate again. Landon Ternus Landon Ternus 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Columbus Lakeview | 2023 State NE is a beast among boys, Lakeview doesn’t have their stats posted however watching through Landon’s LB film just shows how great he is at his positions. Ternus Hits hard and follows pays wrapping up and ending plays right away.
Wahoo VS Pierce
We are staying in Class C-1 with another contention game. Both of these teams have something to prove. These two teams have a history, Wahoo beat Pierce 38-0 in the 2019 state championship, the next season Pierce would get back at Wahoo in 2020 beating them 42-28. after a season break from playing they are starting the season against each other. Pierce is one of the top dogs every year in Class C and there is no question why. Abram Scholting Abram Scholting 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Pierce | 2023 State NE , Benjamin Brahmer Benjamin Brahmer 6'6" | 210 lbs | TE Pierce | 2023 State NE , Tristan Kuehler Tristan Kuehler 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Pierce | 2023 State NE , and more having amazing seasons with great potential this season. Last season the Bluejays went off. With 118 completions they had 2,292 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns. On the ground the Bluejays had even more success rotating backs. they had 3,67 yards on the ground for 41 rushing touchdowns. On defense they were just as great with 46 tackles for loss and 31 sacks on the entire season. Add on the 12 interceptions 2 fumbles and 2 blocked punts. The hype writes itself at that point. On the other side we have the Wahoo Warriors who finished last season 7-4 losing some close ones along the way last season. On offense The Warriors passed for 814 total yards and scored 7 touchdowns in the air, on the ground the Warriors had 2,101 yards on the ground along with 27 touchdowns. Their defense was nothing to ignore as well with 15 sacks and 58 tackles for loss and 16 interceptions in 2021.

MLB Tristan Kuehler Tristan Kuehler 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Pierce | 2023 State NE (Pierce) DE Dominek Rohleder Dominek Rohleder 6'1" | 220 lbs | DL Wahoo | 2023 State NE (Wahoo)
Tristan Kuehler Tristan Kuehler 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Pierce | 2023 State NE is great and is defiantly up there with the greats at Pierce and is one of the best in the state. last season Tristan had 157 total tackles assisting with 122 of them and 35 solo tackles. His ability to come in and stop plays with open field tackles and fill the gaps in the line are his best talents as a line backer. He honestly is one of the best at that role it makes his film fun to watch and you can see how well he can read the plays. Dominek goes right to the ball looking for every opportunity to push his way though the offensive line. Once he sees an opening pushes through it. Last season he had 41 total tackles 9 of which were tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Both of these guys have fun to watch film and do great at their roles for their teams.
