Katris has come out and had another elite start to the season that’s not getting the love it should. 2 weeks and 2 similar performances but this week he got the defensive cycle. The leader of the defense directs traffic and makes plays all over the field. Friday night was just another day’s work for Katris. 10 tackles, 3 TFL, a sack, an interception, and then he capped it off with a touchdown. You can’t have a more complete all-around performance than that and Katris is just getting started.
Nylan Brown Nylan Brown 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Ben Davis | 2024 State IN – Ben Davis – LB – 5’11” 225lbs – 2025
Brown is someone we got to know this summer in person and he checked all the boxes heading into the season. However, you just want to make sure a dude is who you think he is. Sure enough, Brown is that and maybe a bit more. We knew he was incredibly strong and physical, but now he’s anticipating holes and blowing up plays before they get to the LOS. Friday night he set the tone all night. Big hit after big hit. TFL after TFL. But, when it counted most, my goodness did Brown seal the deal. On a 4th & 1 for the win, Brown didn’t just make the stop, he hit stick the ball carrier to seal the deal. Brown has arrived and big things are coming for Ben Davis with him on defense.
Owen Bright Owen Bright 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Center Grove | 2024 State IN – Center Grove – LB – 6’0″ 205lbs – 2024
Bright is one of the more sound defensive players in the state. Week after week, he never disappoints. You know what you’re getting with him when he steps on the field. A LB who can play the run and is athletic enough to drop back into coverage. Friday night, Center Grove held them to 62 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Bright led the way with 12 solo tackles and a pair of TFLs that mattered late in the game. He’s good in the open field and is best when the lights get bright. Friday night was one of the more complete defensive performances against the run you’ll see.
Cannon Brunes Cannon Brunes 5'11" | 205 lbs | ATH Western Boone | 2024 State IN – Western Boone – LB – 5’11” 217lbs – 2024
Brunes is one of the more versatile defenders in the area because of his ability to play patient, yet fast enough to make plays all over the field. Through 2 weeks of the season, he’s proven that he’s taken the next step as a LB. He’s currently 2nd in the entire state in tackles with 28 solos. He’s quite literally, all over the field, plugging holes, and making tackles in the open field. He’s reading what the offense is giving him and anticipating it just enough to make the play. He’s well on his way to putting himself on the map throughout the entire state.
