Let us take a peek at some players that deserve the spotlight this week and hopefully see this production continue throughout the year.
Lincoln Kienholz Lincoln Kienholz 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Pierre | 2023 State – Pierre T.F. Riggs, QB
Kienholz diced up and dominated the Aberdeen defense with an efficiency that is simply impressive when you look at it on the stat sheet. Kienholz tossed for an easy 438 yards with a completion percentage of .848%, picking apart the defense with very little room for error. Kienholz’s accuracy was on point not even coming close to throwing an interception and meeting up with his top targets for a total of 6 passing touchdowns on the day. This performance was the key piece for Pierre’s win over Aberdeen Central with a final score of 54-15, with the defense doing a stellar job of holding Aberdeen at bay. Kienholz made sure to spread the ball, making sure to get everyone involved and having everyone on the offense have some products to help the team. To top off the stellar performance, Kienholz had a QBR of 164.5 showing just how efficient he was in this overpowering performance. This was no surprise to anyone who has known about the skill that he has shown over the past few years and his style of player can only be described in one word, electric.
Maddox May Maddox May LB Aberdeen Roncalli | 2023 State – Aberdeen Roncalli, RB/LB
May ran over anyone in his way into helping Aberdeen Roncalli into the second win of the year and was a force when doing it in this last game. May had 25 carries for a total of 92 yards. This performance was a key part of Roncalli’s win with a final score of 14-7 against a tough opponent Deuel with their stingy defense helping keep the Aberdeen Roncalli offense at bay. May averaged around 3.7 yards per carrying and totaled a touchdown in the final score, being a key red zone piece in tandem with Abe Kretchman Abe Kretchman RB Aberdeen Roncalli | 2023 . Along with a small amount of receiving yards, May had a complete total of 96 all-purpose yards being the leader in that for his team. May on the defensive side of the ball totaled four solo tackles and one tackle for a loss, putting in a solid performance as a linebacker for a defensive unit that possesses great talent. If May keeps up these performances, he should keep coming on these lists with how talented he is at football.
Beau Wichterman – Lead-Deadwood, DB/K
Wichterman was lockdown and made plays all across the field on the defensive ball in his team’s win this past week. Wichterman gave great coverage in both a man-to-man coverage package with zone schemes that maximized his value as a defensive back. Wichterman has an interception along with a pass defection in a game where he did just about a little bit of everything. Making tackles and plays on players trying to break away and he made sure to always stop them in their tracks. As a kicker you could not ask for much more out of him, he went 100% on all six of his PATs, giving his team an extra six points in a blowout win to the Hill City Rangers with a score of 48 to 6. Wichterman gave a great performance on both sides of the ball, not much more than you could ask out of a player on your team.
Caden DeVries – Madison, LB
DeVries gave a great performance in his team’s loss to Dell Rapids yet it should not be overshadowed by how great he was on defense. DeVries was everywhere on the defense, having 8 solo tackles combined with a total of 8 assisted tackles for a great performance that you would want out of your star linebacker. He was a coverage beast with his speed and agility running all around the field to get into the face of receivers and make sure no one can get open on his watch. He added on with a half a tackle for a loss for a performance that is solid to kick off the season for a player that has high expectations and is showing with the opener of the season that he will be living up to those.
It was exciting to have the season come back and have those Friday Night Lights back and it will be a welcome addition to all of our lives over the next few months.
