I’ll be putting together one or two of these notebooks per week going forward, highlighting individual players, teams, and more.
Notable individual-performances:
The Wyoming Area linebacker also plays tailback for the Warriors and had an eye-opening performance. Behind his performance, Wyoming Area took down Tunkhannock 48-28. We’ll definitely have to take a deeper look at Crossley as a running back.
Dashawn Cox
Dashawn Cox
A player that I was unfamiliar with, I heard about Cox’s quality performance on Friday night against Shaler Area. Cox had 341 all-purpose yards in the game thanks to 157 rushing yards on seven carries, 99 receiving yards, and 85 kick return yards. He also had two touchdowns in the game. Butler defeated Shaler Area 35-28.
I couldn’t find any stats for Noss just yet but by all accounts including our Vic Castillo Vic Castillo RB PA , Noss had nothing short of a dominant performance on Friday night against Bishop Canevin High School. You can watch the HUDL tape of his performance, here.
The Baldwin RB/LB had 200 all-purpose yards against Brashear on Friday night including 100 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Tracy helped lead West Allegheny to an impressive win over Moon Area on Friday night behind four touchdowns and an interception. Big time performance for Tracy to open his senior season.
The Southern Huntingdon quarterback started his senior season off in a big way with 383 passing yards and three touchdowns as well as 131 yards on the ground and an additional two touchdowns. He did have two interceptions in the game but if he can cut down on those turnovers, southern Huntingdon will be a tough team to beat this season.
Impressive Team Performances:
Danville 54 – Bloomsburg 0:
Wow, I did expect Danville to win this game but I’m not sure I quite expected them to be as dominant as they were in this one. Bloomsburg has some solid talent but Danville is deep throughout their roster and is a team to keep a close eye on all season long. The Ironmen’s offense was unstoppable and their defense was dominant, suffocating Bloomsburg including not allowing a yard in the first half. Expect the Ironmen to be among the state’s top teams all season. Bloomsburg on the other hand has a chance to put together a good season still.
Gateway 27 – Mt. Lebanon 6
Not the way Mt. Lebanon was looking to start their title defense as Gateway’s defense was spectacular on Friday evening. Great victory for Gateway to open their season, a statement victory. For Mt. Lebanon, it will take time to try and replace their lost talent from last season but don’t be shocked if the Blue Devils are firing on all cylinders in a few weeks.
Baldwin 47 – Brashear 17
Really impressive performance by Baldwin last night, Brashear is a talented team but Baldwin dominated from the start on Friday night, taking a 40-8 lead heading into the second half. Nice statement victory for Baldwin, we’ll have to wait and see how Brashear bounces back from it, still a very talented team.
West Allegheny 41 – Moon Area 0
Moon Area was expected to be one of the better teams in the state this season but it was West Allegheny’s night on Friday. West Allegheny got out to a quick lead less than a minute into the game and never looked back. This West Allegheny team was an underrated one heading into the season, a lot of good talent on that team.
La Salle College 37 – North Penn 28
This was an impressive performance out of both teams on Friday night. On one end, La Salle is going to be a state title contender this season and opening their season with a quality win on the road against North Penn is a great way to get their season started. On the other hand, North Penn was a team that I thought could put together a strong season but still had a few questions about. Going out and keeping this game rather close is imprsessive for the Knights and while it’s a loss, it’s one that they could draw plenty of positives from and build upon going forward.
