It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Victory Christian Conquerors. The Conquerors are ready to contend once again with a familiar name as their new head coach.
Victory Christian Conquerors
Victory Christian took a step to contending for state championships last season when they went 9-3 and lost in the second round of the playoffs. After starting the year 1-2, the Conquerors would rattle off eight straight wins, including a blowout win over Metro Christian that got everyone’s attention. And in the final week of the regular season, they would knock off Beggs at home to capture the district championship. Despite winning the district title, the Conquerors would lose to Cascia Hall in the second round and their season came to an abrupt end. However, with nearly everyone back on defense and the majority of their starters back on offense, there are plenty of reasons to be very optimistic about the upcoming season.
The Conquerors named assistant coach Brett Smith as the new man in charge of the Victory football program earlier this year and he’s someone incredibly familiar with what the Conquerors have coming back, as well as the history of Victory football. Seven starters return on the offensive side of the ball but the biggest hurdle will be to find a new quarterback and some new playmakers at the wide receiver position. Victory does benefit from having their entire offensive line returning this fall. And on the defensive side of the ball, the Conquerors have the chance to be very special with nine starters returning, including their entire defensive line and linebackers. Victory Christian will have a tough non-district schedule once again but they expect to be in contention for the district crown.

. The Victory speedster only played in seven games last season due to an injury. But he’s back to 100 percent and gives the Conquerors some much needed experience in the backfield. Byrams ran for more than 700 yards on just 68 carries and also had 16 touchdowns on the season. Byrams will also benefit from having the entire Victory Christian offensive line back this fall. We expect his production to reach new heights this fall, which is saying something when you look at those 2021 numbers.

. Better known as “Tot”, this Victory linebacker has the chance to be one of the better backers in Class 2A this fall. He finished his sophomore season with over 160 tackles and was a dominating force on the defensive side of the ball. He will play on the offensive side of the ball as well for the Conquerors and we’re interested to see how Victory’s coaches get creative with using the 2024 powerhouse. With another productive season this fall, we expect Chandler’s recruitment to take off.

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 26 – Cascia Hall
– It’s hard not to circle this game a few times if you’re a Victory Christian fan. The Conquerors open up the 2022 season at home against Cascia Hall. Not only is it the season opener, but it’s against a Cascia team that handed Victory two losses in 2021, including in the second round of the playoffs. Cascia Hall has moved up to Class 3A for at least the next two seasons so this will definitely be the only time these two play in 2022 but the Conquerors will want to kick off their season with a little revenge.
Sept. 2 – Henryetta
Sept. 9 – Shiloh Christian, AR.
Sept. 23 – AT Okmulgee
Sept. 30 – AT Beggs
– Speaking of revenge, that’s what Beggs will want as Victory Christian heads down south to take on the Golden Demons. This game is going to have headlines galore going into it. Former Victory head coach Ben Palmer is now an assistant at Beggs. The Conquerors beat Beggs in the final week of the regular season to capture the district crown. Not only was it in the final week, it was on a Saturday night where they were literally the final regular season game of the year in Oklahoma. These two are the heavy favorites to win the district again coming into this season.
Oct. 7 – AT Morris
Oct. 14 – Westville
Oct. 21 – AT Sperry
Oct. 28 – Kansas
Nov. 4 – AT Kiefer
Notable
The Conquerors had another coaching change this offseason and this time, Victory Christian looked to hire within. After two years with Dub Maddox and two years with Ben Palmer, the Conquerors are hoping for a much longer tenure with new head coach Brett Smith. Smith was an assistant for the Conquerors and actually played for the Conquerors in the 2000’s. Smith is excited to take over at his alma mater and for Victory Christian, they’re hoping to finally have some stability on their coaching staff moving forward. There’s no doubt that Smith is taking over a very experienced Victory team and as he makes it his own moving forward, they should contend once again.
