Here’s a look at some breakout candidates in 7A Region 5 this year…
Cayman Prangley Cayman Prangley 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Kennesaw Mountain | 2023 State GA – Kennesaw Mountain
One of the top under the radar QBs across Georgia, Prangley is coming off an outstanding season for the fast-rising Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs last fall. The big 6-foot-2 215-pounder showed off a strong, accurate arm all season, but what he does best is take care of the football. The Kennesaw native threw for 25 touchdowns and just 6 INTs last fall. He’s accurate when throwing the ball over the middle and does a good job of distributing the ball to his receivers early in the play. He’s smart, knows what to do with the football, and showed leadership qualities as well, leading the Mustangs to one of their best seasons in school history. Prangley also showed that he’s a threat running the ball, picking up 312 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior last year. He has plenty of weapons on offense and could lead the Mustangs to a deep playoff run this fall as a senior.
David Eziomume David Eziomume 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB North Cobb | 2024 State GA – RB – North Cobb
A versatile athlete coming off a promising sophomore season last year, Ezimume is a true breakout in 7A Region 5 due to his speed, versatility, and playing for one of the top 7A programs in Georgia. He has good size at 6-foot-0 170-pounds and showed flashes when given the opportunity to run the ball last year. He can line up in the backfield, in the slot, or outside, and with North Cobb’s dominant rushing attack, the rising junior has a chance to have a giant 2022 season. He’ll still share carries with Ben Hall and Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA , two excellent runners, but Ezimume has proved that he deserves a bigger role this fall. He has game-changing speed and is tough to run down by defenders in the open space. He changes directions well, he can make defenders miss, and has a chance to light up defenses this fall.
Wendell Gregory Wendell Gregory 6'4" | 215 lbs | DB Walton | 2024 State GA – Walton
One of the fastest-rising linebackers all across Georgia, Gregory is an explosive defender who has the ability to blow up any particular play. He has a long frame at 6-foot-4 215-pounds and he’s only going to get bigger and stronger over time. He really came on last year and you could see him getting better and better, making him a true breakout candidate and one of the top overall defenders in the region. When you turn on the film, it’s easy to see why his recruitment started to take off some this offseason. Only a sophomore, Gregory made plays last year that made him look like an upperclassman. He’s reliable in coverage and can play some safety too if the Raiders need him there. He’s a stout defender and put together well physically with a chance to double his tackle total next year as a junior. So far, Gregory holds offers from Michigan, Virginia Tech. North Carolina, Michigan State, among others. With a full season coming, look for Gregory to prove he’s one of the top 2024 linebackers across Georgia this fall.
