Scouting Profiles: Top 2023 Georgia QBs, Part III

Here, we continue a multi-part series where we take a look at each 2023 Georgia QB and see what makes them special. Threw for nearly 1300 yards while completing nearly 70% of his passes and throwing 13 TDs against 1 INT. With higher volume, Woods could put up really prolific passing numbers while being efficient and valuing the football. At 6’3 200 pounds, Woods is built nicely with room to fill out and add more mass. Navigates the pocket well and does a great job of stepping into his throws. He has a quick release paired with a longer delivery that allows him to put plenty of velocity on the ball. Perhaps more impressively is his awareness to take some velocity off the ball and throw a catchable ball to receivers in the short game. He also is able to put plenty of air under the ball when tossing the deep ball and throwing it to where only his receiver has a shot at catching it. Woods is a quick and decisive decision-maker with the unique ability to see plays before they happen. His combination of confidence in his decisions and arm talent allows him to make any throw on the field. When facing pressure, he stands tall and sets his feet before he makes throws, which means sometimes sacrificing his body. Woods gives you the unique ability to drive the ball down the field while not risking turnovers. He checks all the physical boxes, but he shows a lot of intangible qualities that make him a very intriguing QB prospect. Expect Woodward Academy to lean on the passing game more, which will give Woods the opportunity to produce at a high clip. With a good supporting cast around him and looking to carry over some momentum from last year, Woods has the chance to develop into a P5 QB prospect with a good year.   Player Comparison   Hendon Hooker - Tennessee   The similarities in frame are clearly there, and they both have the ability to put plenty of power behind their throws and have similar deliveries. Hooker is a more prolific runner, but Woods is a great athlete with good size.     [player_tooltip player_id="34041" first="Josiah" last="Jarrett"]   High School: Dutchtown   Height/Weight: ~6’3 205~   Offers: Reinhardt   Scouting Report   Athletic QB that has improved each year at the varsity level. Threw for over 1000 yards as a junior and threw for a higher completion percentage and fewer INTs than his sophomore season. In regards to his large frame, he is built almost like an RB and that allows him to be rather physical in the running game and stay upright in the pocket. Jarrett’s ability to navigate the pocket, evade pass rushers and keep his eyes downfield is without a doubt his best quality. He does a great job of keeping plays alive and oftentimes makes something out of nothing on his film. Jarrett doesn’t have a super strong arm, but he does a good job of mixing up his arm angles and getting the ball out quickly to hit open receivers. Even without a super strong arm, he layers the ball nicely and attacks the intermediate area of the field extremely well. His fundamentals in the pocket and ability to do damage with his legs make him an intriguing QB with a high ceiling. Look for Jarrett to get an opportunity at the next level as he has a chance to break out in a big way his senior season.   Player Comparison   D’Eriq King - Former Miami QB   King never had a super strong arm, but he was able to make plays with his pocket prescience and running ability. I see some of those same qualities in Jarrett, even though Jarrett is significantly taller.     [player_tooltip player_id="327217" first="Ben" last="Guthrie"]   High School: Alpharetta   Height/Weight: ~6’1 175~   Offers: Reinhardt   http://www.hudl.com/video/3/9603810/612f7def0dc05a04ccbc4023   Scouting Report   An athletic signal-caller that will look to build off a breakout junior season. Last season, he threw for nearly 1700 yards and completed 67% of his passes. He also threw 17 TDs against 6 INTs. Guthrie was also fairly efficient as a runner, where he rushed for 281 yards and found the endzone 3 times. As a passer, I would say that Guthrie has a "gunslinger" style release and approach. He focuses more on gripping the ball and ripping it downfield than on arm mechanics, and does a great job of generating power from his lower body. He has a longer release but throws a fastball that allows him to fit the ball into tight coverage. At this stage in his career, his short and intermediate game is more developed than the deep ball or touch throw part of his game. However, he does possess the arm strength to see further development in that area. Guthrie is a creative QB with his legs, but he plays under control. In fact, I would say he almost looks more comfortable when he is throwing on the run or extending plays with his legs rather than sitting back in the pocket. His ability to throw on the run and still put the ball into tight windows and hit his receivers in stride is without a doubt his most unique skill set. Guthrie is coming off a big junior season while still being raw in some areas of his game. With further growth, he could step up and produce at a very high level his senior season which could propel him to a good opportunity at the next level.   Player Comparison   Grayson McCall - Coastal Carolina   Both McCall and Guthrie are players that are confident in their ability to do damage with their athleticism, but both play under control and let the game dictate how they make plays.     [player_tooltip player_id="327232" first="Hayden" last="Clark"]   High School: Mill Creek   Height/Weight: ~6’1 200~   Offers: Reinhardt, Washburn   Scouting Report   Productive QB that helped lead Mill Creek to an 11-2 2021 season with a deep playoff run. Strong armed prospect that produced at a high rate last season. While his completion percentage was lower at 54%, Clark still managed to throw for over 2000 yards last season and added 19 TDs against 7 INTs. Clark, a strong armed QB prospect, has picked up several accolades recently for his playmaking ability. Not only did he win two awards at the recent VTO All American camp, but he also won the golden arm award at the Elite 11 regional back in 2020. When you watch film, it is clear that Clark has some rare arm talent. He gets the ball out quickly and confidently, and does a great job at attacking defenses in the short and intermediate passing games. In the pocket, he senses pressure well and doesn’t appear to get rattled easily. You would like to see more consistency with his deep ball, he has more than enough arm strength to make any throw on the field, but can sometimes overthrow his receivers. Regardless, it is clear that Clark has all the tools to be a very prolific passer. With some of his top playmakers back from last season, Clark should settle down and adjust to the varsity level well. Once he does that, he could be a prospect that blows up on the recruiting trail as he has D1 arm talent.   Player Comparison   Hank Bachmeier - Boise State   I like how gritty [player_tooltip player_id="327232" first="Hayden" last="Clark"] is, reminds me of Hank Bachmeier. I think they both have unconventional releases too.
