We are going to look at several running backs that have the potential to put up big seasons. With another update coming at the end of the football season, the rankings are going to be changing. Here are plenty of running backs to keep an eye on this upcoming season from the class of 2023.
Josh Ficklin Josh Ficklin 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Bentonville | 2023 State AR -Bentonville-5’10” 195-Pounds
With two division one scholarship offers to his credit, Ficklin has the potential to have a strong 2022 football season. Bentonville has the talent on the offensive side of the ball to implement Ficklin in the passing game as well as the running game. We had the opportunity to see Ficklin play several times last season and he did not disappoint. Look for Ficklin to receive plenty of touches this season and for the Tigers to make a playoff run this season. Ficklin has the potential to have an impressive season for the Tigers.
Carson Morgan Carson Morgan 6'1" | 180 lbs | RB Bentonville West | 2023 State AR -Bentonville West-6’1” 180-Pounds
Carson Morgan Carson Morgan 6'1" | 180 lbs | RB Bentonville West | 2023 State AR is one of the most versatile running backs in the state of Arkansas going into the 2022 season. The young man plays multiple positions for the Wolverines. However, we are going to focus on his play on the offensive side of the ball. Morgan is a player that can rush between the tackles or cut the run along the sidelines. Meanwhile, Morgan is a weapon coming out of the backfield in the passing game. With a number of scholarship offers to his credit, Morgan should have another strong season to close out his high school career this season.
Garrion Curry Garrion Curry 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Magnolia | 2023 State AR -Magnolia-5’9” 180-Pounds
Garrion Curry Garrion Curry 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Magnolia | 2023 State AR is a running back that impresses me with his excellent speed and vision. He has no problem allowing a rushing lane to develop. Curry can take the ball the distance from anywhere on the field. The Magnolia running back will have plenty of opportunities to carry the football this season and has the chance to surpass his rushing total from a season ago. Curry rushed for 1,127 yards a season ago and earned all-conference honors in the process. He has the potential to have an impressive 2022 football season.
Chris Gannaway Chris Gannaway 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Bryant | 2023 State AR -Bryant-5’10” 175-Pounds
Chris Gannaway Chris Gannaway 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Bryant | 2023 State AR has had several impressive seasons in a row and is looking to close out his career with another state championship this season. The Bryant running back rushed for over 1,200 yards last season and could easily top that total this season. Gannaway has terrific speed and has the patience to allow his rushing lane to develop before rushing through it. He is a nightmare to bring down in the open field and he has only continued to improve over the offseason. Gannaway and the Hornets should make a deep playoff run this season.
Dede Johnson Dede Johnson 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Searcy | 2023 State AR -Searcy-6’0” 195-Pounds
Dede Johnson Dede Johnson 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Searcy | 2023 State AR exploded on to the scene last season and earned all-state honors in the process. Johnson rushed for 1,974 yards last season and I can easily see him top the 2,000 yard mark this season. He is a back that runs with a good mix of power and speed. Johnson is tough to bring down on initial contact and he has the ability to bounce off of opposing defenders. I expect another big season from Johnson and a playoff run for the Lions in the process this season.
