Personally, this is one of the more exciting times of the offseason. We are just weeks away from camps picking up and games are on the horizon.
With that, let us take a look at some of the top prospects in each district.
Cael Ortmann – Remsen St. Mary’s – QB/LB
When it comes to eight-player football, Remsen St. Mary’s is at the top of most lists. That includes here, with the return of quarterback/linebacker Cael Ortmann.
As a junior, Ortmann threw for 31 touchdowns and finished with 57 total TDs. He completed over 61 percent of his passes and had just three interceptions on 150 attempts.
What separates Ortmann is his speed. A dual-threat QB, Ortmann averaged 6.6 yards per carry.
Mason Dicks – Newell-Fonda – QB/CB
Right behind the aforementioned Cael Ortmann is another superb athlete in Newell-Fonda dual-threat quarterback Mason Dicks. Last year, Dicks ran for 1,324 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging a mind-boggling 11 yards per carry.
When he opted to stay in the pocket and unload, Dicks was just as effective, completing 65 percent of his throws for almost 1,500 yards and 19 more scores.
With a few key players moving on due to graduation, look for even more of the offense to run through Dicks this fall.
Brenden Fisch Brenden Fisch 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Remsen St. Mary's | 2023 IA – Remsen St. Mary’s – RB/LB
What makes the Remsen St. Mary’s offense do difficult to stop is the fact that they have not only Cael Ortmann, but superstar running back Brenden Fisch Brenden Fisch 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Remsen St. Mary's | 2023 IA . Last year, Fisch ran for 752 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.
As you would expect, he is capable of catching the ball as well, hauling in 13 passes for 152 yards and four scores. Fisch is also one of the leading returning tacklers in the district.
Beau Goodwin – Kingsley-Pierson – TE/DB
Kingsley-Pierson junior-to-be Beau Goodwin is in line for a big season. As a sophomore, Goodwin recorded 64 tackles and picked off four passes, returning one for a score. He also had three sacks.
Goodwin could also be in line for more usage on offense after catching three passes for 47 yards with a TD.
Ryan Willman – Remsen St. Mary’s – WR/CB
You hate to put too much focus on Remsen St. Mary’s, but they kind of deserve it. And you can’t have a list like this and not mention a player who averaged almost 32 yards per reception.
And he did so on 22 receptions. Ryan Willman is one of the top deep threats in the state, as he caught 22 passes for 697 yards and 13 scores last year.
