It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Anadarko Warriors. Anadarko is back in the preseason top ten and looking to return to becoming a contender.
Anadarko Warriors (3A Preseason Rankings: #9)
The Anadarko Warriors come into the 2022 season ready to erase the memories of 2021 and once again contend in Class 3A. The Warriors come into the season as the #9 team in our Class 3A preseason rankings and they are strengthened by the return of 16 starters from last year’s squad. Anadarko will be hungry to get off to a great start this season after their slow start last fall. Anadarko went 5-6 last fall but the record was hurt significantly due to an 0-4 start on the season. The Warriors would immediately rally and they won five of their next six games down the stretch with the only loss coming to perennial powerhouse Heritage Hall. Once they made it to the playoffs, the Warriors fell in a close one to Sulphur. Fast forward to 2022 and the Warriors are in a new district and the majority of their district opponents will be new and more importantly, they don’t have to worry about Heritage Hall in district play.
The Warriors have the benefit of returning just about everyone on both sides of the ball. The Warriors bring eight starters back on the offensive side of the ball but they will have a new quarterback under center but they have a few options for that spot. Then on defense, the Warriors bring back another group of eight starters and they’ll lean on that side of the ball while the offense continues to improve with the new quarterback. Ten years ago, Anadarko was one of the more dominant teams in Oklahoma and they relied on a strong running game and even stronger defense. This year’s Anadarko team has a lot of those qualities. We’re not saying to go ahead and pencil them in for the state championship game in December. But they’re definitely a top ten team, a district title contender and from there, who knows where the Warriors can end up if they get a favorable path in the playoffs.

is one of the top offensive lineman prospects in the state’s 2023 class. He’s been absolutely dominant over the last few seasons and he’s been outstanding when we’ve seen him in person at various camps and showcase events. BigBow is going to be the anchor of a very athletic and physical rushing attack. Anadarko has a great mix of athleticism and then pure strength that could make Anadarko one of the top rushing teams in Class 3A this fall. BigBow is a dominating blocker and will certainly help the Warriors move the ball forward at will against their opponents this season.

– 2023 Running Back
We mentioned earlier that Anadarko, when they had a ton of success a decade ago, was a program that could run the ball at will and had some outstanding running backs. A 2023 running back that’s trying to step into that role for the Warriors this season is

. He will definitely benefit from having an offensive line in front of him that is anchored by a prospect like BigBow. But nevertheless, Camp has the chance to have a really strong season this fall. Anadarko plays in a district that is full of really good running backs so it’s going to be interesting to see who stands out the most within this district. Camp could end up being a breakout player for the Warriors and Class 3A overall.

We mentioned that one of the positions that Anadarko will need to replace is the quarterback position and one of the young standouts that might be filling that role is 2024 athlete

. When we got Anadarko’s roster breakdown, Johnson was listed as a quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back. On offense alone, he’s going to be able to bring some versatility. He’ll be an athlete playing quarterback and the combination of him and Camp in the backfield will be fun to watch in the running game. Then he also helps the Warriors on defense as well. He’s definitely a 2024 name that we didn’t know much about but we’re excited to see how his 2022 season plays out.

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 26 – AT Lone Grove
Sept. 2 – Elgin
Sept. 16 – Chickasha
Sept. 23 – Mannford
Sept. 30 – AT McLoud
Oct. 7 – Perkins-Tryon
– After facing a strong McLoud squad on the road in week five, Anadarko returns home for another tough district clash with Perkins-Tryon. Anadarko’s slow start in 2021 finished up with a loss to Perkins-Tryon last season. They’ll be looking to get a little revenge by getting the win over the Demons. If Anadarko can get a win here and if they’ve taken care of business so far, Anadarko will keep their district title hopes alive. It’s been a few years since Anadarko has won a district championship but they have a legitimate shot at doing just that this fall. They’ll have a few more tough games later on in the season but a win here will certainly help.
Oct. 13 – North Little Rock
Oct. 21 – AT Mount Saint Mary
Oct. 28 – AT Metro Christian
– Arguably the toughest game of the year will come in week nine, the final Friday in October when Anadarko travels east to Tulsa to face off with Metro Christian. The Patriots are moving up to Class 3A after being dominant in Class 2A over the last four seasons. They immediately become the favorite within this district as they come into this season. The Warriors will certainly be tested more than they have all season when it comes to slowing down Metro’s offense. When it comes to Anadarko’s opponents, almost all of them have strong rushing attacks, Metro will attack Anadarko with the passing game so the Warriors have to be ready for that.
Nov. 4 – Kingfisher
Notable
After a rare season of missing out on the 2019 playoffs, Anadarko returned to Class 3A and they’ll remain there for at least the next two seasons. Anadarko has bounced back and forth between 3A and 4A and over the last several seasons, it’s been a struggle for the Warriors to find enough consistency to be as dominant as they were earlier in the decade. However, Anadarko does return nearly everyone on both sides of the ball and they appear to have what it takes to contend within their district. They are one of a few teams that should be considered top contenders to capture the district crown and as long as they don’t suffer any slip ups, they could capture their first district championship in nearly a decade.
