6A Season Preview: District 19 Quarterbacks

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In this article we will cover the quarterbacks of a STACKED District 19. We have a couple of teams who have moved up in the division with real potential at this position, and some returning starters looking to take over as the best. This may be one of the most entertaining districts to watch for this upcoming season and you will need to know these gunslingers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>[player_tooltip player_id='121952' first='Caleb' last='Koger'] (2023) - Katy</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Koger will be entering his 3rd straight year starting for the dominating Tigers. Koger has gotten better with every season and we expect no different this time around. Last season Koger threw for 1,863 yards and 21 touchdowns on an impressive completion percentage of 66%. He has shown that he can lead and with so much experience under his belt, expect him to control the games with exceptional poise and confidence.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>[player_tooltip player_id='226441' first='Gavin' last='Rutherford'] (2023) - Cinco Ranch </em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rutherford received the district Offensive Player of The Year last season and will be coming back for more. He had a fantastic junior campaign, throwing for 2,752 yards and 29 touchdowns, and showed off his dual threat ability running for 400 yards and 11 touchdowns. Rutherford has very good escape ability and keeps his eyes down the field, looking for his targets. He has a nice touch on the ball and after having an impressive summer, especially in 7v7, he will be looking to make the run for state. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>[player_tooltip player_id='121953' first='Koby' last='Truehill'] (2023) - Paetow</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Truehill gets his chance to shine as the defending state champs move up in division. Truehill and the Panthers will look to continue the success against some tough competition, but have the players to do so, starting at the quarterback position. The lefty will have many talking about his game and cool composure. Expect Truehill to grab the attention from many for his senior season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>Joshua Johnson (2023) - Morton Ranch</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Johnson made a living on breaking the pocket and delivering to open receivers. He should very good elusiveness and he is another one who kept their eyes downfield and made good throws. Johnson was dangerous in the option, making the correct reads and getting some big runs off of it. He is a 1,000 yard thrower and can beat you with his legs as well. Johnson will definitely be one to keep eyes on to see his development over the summer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>[player_tooltip player_id='266450' first='Colin' last='Willetts'] (2024) - Katy Jordan</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Willetts leads the new kids on the block, Jordan Warriors, into this district as they move up in play as well. Willetts had a very respectable season last year, showing that he has the talent to make key throws and dictate a game with his running abilities as well. He is surrounded by extraordinary talent that will indeed help as the competition has gotten stronger. Willetts and this team can surprise some people this season so watch out for them!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>Joe Jefferson (2023) - Katy Taylor</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jefferson looks to be the guy for the Mustangs this season. He is a very talented athlete who can hurt you in the air or on the ground. He showed some promise last season in games, and will be looking to capitalize on a good summer or work. Jefferson will without a doubt capture some eyes with his play for the season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>Carldell Beard (2023) - Mayde Creek</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Beard returns to Mayde Creek for his senior year and looks to take advantage of being QB1 this season. Last year on split reps, Beard threw for 917 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has good size and a very good deep ball that he lets rip. Beard can help lead this team to some quality wins this year with his play and leadership. We get a chance to see what he has worked on during the offseason.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline"><em>Chris Gilbert (2023) - Tompkins</em></span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gilbert now controls the reigns for the Falcons offense and they may nit even miss a step. Gilbert is something special and he showed it in 7v7s. Quick release of the ball with nice accuracy, and has the ability to move in and out of the pocket. The Falcons offense will be dangerous with Gilbert controlling it. Expect major things from both Gilbert and this team! </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
