Thursday night we traveled to Victory Christian Football Stadium to watch a football showcase run by College Coaches. There were several coaches in attendance from different schools located in the Midwest region. We had a lot of talent on both sides of the football and want to dive into what we watched while in attendance on a hot Thursday evening.
Tyler Mitchell Tyler Mitchell 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Verdigris | 2023 State OK – 2023 WR – Verdigris
Mitchell has made his rounds through summer camps and has received some offers these past few weeks. Mitchell has attended Spot the Ball Showcase in Tulsa the past few years since the showcase was started by Cody Simpson and Colin McQuillan (Graceland Coach). He showed he has a good change of direction and gets out of his breaks quickly with his length. Mitchell has great leadership qualities which he displayed by being the first guy up in each drill and competition. He gives great effort and competes every rep. Mitchell has a good frame that is still growing as he has added good weight over these last several months.
Ayden Guess – 2024 WR – Tulsa Central
The Braves come into the 2022 season with playmakers all over the field. In case you missed the Under the Hood article with the Braves, please click the link to view it. Several prospects have received offers and others garnering attention from several college coaches watching Coach Shaw’s Twitter blow up this spring. After watching Guess play at wide receiver, they have another potential prospect that will have several college coaches wanting to speak with him too. Guess clocked in at a 4.56 40-yard dash time that had me looking and listening to the other coaches talking about his time. Once he fixes his start he will be a mid-4.4 guy. Guess made several catches over defenders where he just grabbed the ball over them and made it look effortless. He has good hands and does a good job high-pointing the ball.
Jalen Baker – 2023 RB/LB – Victory Christian
Within the last few weeks, Baker has picked up attention from several schools. Last night, he picked up his second offer with Graceland and Coach McQuillan. I spoke with a Victory coach last night and asked how many reps Baker got at running back last year and he replied back with none. I am still excited about him getting reps this year at running back but looked solid at linebacker where he played last season. Baker competes in every rep and has good footwork. He looked good in 1 on 1’s vs running backs and likes to play physical. Overall, Baker looked solid again last night and he looks to have a great senior year.
Michael Barnett Michael Barnett 6'0" | ATH Catoosa | 2023 State OK – 2023 WR/DB – Catoosa
It was fun watching Barnett and Tyler Mitchell Tyler Mitchell 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Verdigris | 2023 State OK go up against each other last night. It was competitive and each had a turn to go against each other on both sides of the ball. Barnett is coming in strong from team camp at Verdigris and the Showcase where he earned his first offer to play at the next level. Barnett continues to show good movement in space with quick lateral movement. He ran good routes in the 1 on 1 portion of the camp last night at wide receiver. He has soft hands and continues to gain separation during his routes.
DJ Whittley – 2023 OL – Collinsville
Whittley is a talented kid that stood out at the jump. He has a good frame and still could gain weight to grow into an offensive lineman body. At first look, I thought he was a linebacker or defensive end. When we spoke he stated that he plays at tackle on the offensive side of the ball. During bag drills, Whittley has great footwork and can move side to side. In his 1-on-1 period, he showed heavy hands that physically latched on to his opponents where they couldn’t get off his block. He has a good pass set to go along with a good base where he doesn’t lunge at his defender. Whittley also picked up his first offer at the camp Thursday night.
Russel Dugger Russel Dugger 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Catoosa | 2023 State OK – 2023 QB – Catoosa
Another prospect from Catoosa that we were able to watch Thursday night is Russel Dugger Russel Dugger 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Catoosa | 2023 State OK . Thursday night he only played the position of a quarterback so he was able to take extra reps throughout the camp with a college coach instructing him. Dugger was one of the better quarterbacks at camp as he was more consistent with his throws. He has good touch on his deep ball and good ball placement with his intermediate game. Dugger picked up an offer at the camp which makes this the second offer he currently holds.
Braylan Anderson – 2024 RB/LB – Hazen, Arkansas
One individual that stood out to me during testing drills was Braylan Anderson. He clocked in at a 4.57 40 and was explosive in his broad jump. Anderson was quick in and out of his cuts and can be a good player at the next level. Anderson moves well out in open space and was able to make linebackers miss consistently. He came out to the camp to play running back and linebacker but could potentially play cornerback with his size and the way he moves at the next level. He was quick to make his reads at linebacker and get downhill. He liked to attack and be aggressive in the 1 on 1 period.
Karson George – 2023 OL – Atoka
This young man wasn’t that hard to miss at camp standing nearly 6’4″. Karson George came out to camp Thursday night from Atoka, OK., George also picked up his first offer at the showcase and performed well in the 1 on 1 session. He has a good pass set and for as big as he is he didn’t lunge on the defender’s second move. He sat back in the chair and used his hands to his advantage with his long reach. There was good competition and Karson stood out consistently with every rep.
Gregg Iser – 2023 OL/DL – Victory
Another Victory player that was in attendance was Gregg Iser. He came out to the showcase and performed for the offensive line and defensive line. After camp was over, his number was called out in front of everyone to let him know that he had just received his first offer. Iser could play linebacker at the next level but stated for his high school team that he would play where he was needed. He is a bit undersized at playing linemen so I could see him making that switch when the time comes. He is very coachable and listens to details well. He displayed a good change of direction and good footwork during his drill portion of the showcase.
Ronnie Downing – 2024 WR – Tulsa Crossover Prep
Downing came into camp a bit unknown but he made sure to leave a mark before it was done and over with. Downing played out at wide receiver and had a few coaches watching him closely. It didn’t matter what route he was given, he always found a way to get open. He could locate green grass and gain separation in each rep he was given. Downing never backed down from competition and performed well at the showcase. He showcased his route running capabilities along with good hands. He could be a receiver that plays slot as he keeps working on his craft. Good prospect to keep an eye out for.
