Continue ReadingThe dead period for high school athletics in the state of Arkansas has started. However, that does not mean that prospects are not putting in the work from an individual perspective. In this article, we are going to take a look at some prospects that are spending some time in the lab honing the skills.
Marcus Wimberly Marcus Wimberly 6'1" | 170 lbs | DB Bauxite | 2025 State AR -Athlete-Bauxite-2025
Wimberly plays all over the field for the Miners. On a given Friday night, you can see him on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Wimberly has terrific speed and is a dangerous player in the secondary to contend with. During the dead period, Wimberly has continued to put in work in the weight room to get ready for the upcoming season. The work done at this point helps the prospects get ready for two-a-days and Wimberly looks to be ready for the July and August grind.
Chris Gannaway Chris Gannaway 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Bryant | 2023 State AR -Running Back-Bryant-2023
The Bryant running back closed out the 2021 season with a state championship at War Memorial Stadium. Gannaway has looked impressive in 7-on-7 competitions as well as several football camps, including Kansas State’s camp a week or two ago. Gannaway can run it between the tackles or cut it to the outside and cause opposing defensive backs plenty of problems. He should not be overlooked when it comes to catching the ball out of the backfield. Gannaway is a prospect that continues to put in the work individually with a focus on the upcoming season.
Romelo Bell Romelo Bell 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Pulaski Academy | 2023 State AR -Defensive Line-Pulaski Academy-2023
Romelo Bell Romelo Bell 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Pulaski Academy | 2023 State AR has tremendous versatility and can play the linebacker or edge positions with impressive effectiveness. Bell has had a strong offseason picking up numerous scholarship offers in the process. He has not let the dead period slow him down this week. Bell has been putting work getting some linebacker drills in. He has shown that he has the speed to drop back into coverage as well as completely disrupt an opponent’s rushing attack. I expect a strong season from Bell and Pulaski Academy this season.
Ryan Adjam-Wide Receiver-Bentonville West-2027
I always like to shine a spotlight on underclassmen that are coming up through the ranks. Ryan Adjam is a prospect that has a good mix of speed and route running ability that can cause problems for the opposing defense. Adjam has had an impressive offseason and that work has continued this week at the Camp Impact taking place in Dallas this week. Bentonville West always has a talented group and over the next few seasons we are going to see that on display every Friday night. Keep an eye out for Adjam over the next few seasons.
Slade Norwood-Quarterback-Farmington-2027
For folks that pay close attention to quarterbacks coming up through the ranks, it would be a wise idea to keep an eye on Slade Norwood. Norwood has honed his craft and looks very impressive throwing with touch or burning the ball into his wide receivers. He continues to show good footwork in the pocket, and he has a keen awareness of when the pocket is breaking down. Farmington is set at the quarterback position over the next few years and Slade Norwood is going to be a fun one to watch develop.
