Wells is very good with his hands up front and has the quicks to get around or inside an offensive tackle. Wells posted (73.0) tackles as a junior along with (24.5) TFL and (6) sacks. Wells is anticipating double teams coming his way this fall and has been working on technique, hand placement and speed drills this off-season to help assist in holding his ground at the point of attack.
“We have a talented defense with experienced starters. Each member of our defense is capable of doing their job well. It is my senior season and I want to help lead this team to the playoffs and make a run. With our new head coach Mike Winklepleck we have had a nice transition and our culture is strong inside the weight room,” stated Wells. Wells has been offered by SW Minnesota State, U.N.I. and Wayne State College. Other schools showing interest include South Dakota State and North Dakota State. Wells earned Iowa Class 5A 2nd team all-state recognition last fall.
Sioux City West senior Lamarion Mothershead Lamarion Mothershead 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Sioux City West | 2023 IA is a skilled WR at 6-4 (180) and has all the measureables as a kid that if in the right system has a chance to flourish due to his athletic ability and soft hands. Mothershead is a kid that will block downfield in the running game and takes great pride in being electric when the ball is in his hands on the football field. Mothershead recorded (9) receptions for (129) yards last fall. Head coach Brandon Holmes will need to find ways to get Mothershead more touches this fall as he is a weapon in the open field.
“I am working on getting bigger, faster and stronger. I am excited about my senior season and want to be a playmaker for our offense,” stated Mothershead who holds a current offer from Grand View University and is drawing interest from Briar Cliff University, Wayne State College and Peru State. Mothershead is also a standout on the basketball court where he averaged (11.7) ppg and buried (42) 3-point shots this past winter. Mothershead can be found on prep hoops as well!
Central Lyon senior OG/OT Jac Van Wyhe 6-5 (280) is a great OL prospect set for a huge senior season. Van Wyhe is a mauler in the running game and is developing in pass protection. The size and skill set is there for Van Wyhe to grow into a solid contributor at the collegiate level. After earning Class 2A all-district honors last fall, Van Wyhe has current offers from Upper Iowa, University of Sioux Falls and SW Minnesota State. Van Wyhe is also drawing interest from South Dakota State and U.N.I.
“I have been taking advantage of our Avera Sports Programming that has implemented our weight lifting program, agility program and speed and acceleration which we are working on four times a week as a team. I am working on my footwork and flexibility to allow me to have a nice bend and working hard to block through the second level in the run game,” stated Van Wyhe. Van Wyhe is camping at Iowa State and Iowa in June and next week will be in attendance at the South Dakota State team camp.
