Continue ReadingIt’s officially here. Colleges hosted prospects for combine-style camps and workouts for the first time in nine months last week. For better or worse, college coaches base a large part of their player evaluations on in-person camps, sometimes putting more emphasize on this testing than game film itself. Because of this, recruiting picks up in the summer more than any other time of year.
As players from across the state head to different college camps all over the country, we wanted to highlight a few of them from what we were able to gather from the past week.
If you have clips from camps, please tag us on Twitter (@whelms21 or @PrepRedzoneNC). We would love to show it in future articles!
The first weekend of the summer can be a big one as players are putting themselves on the radar of college coaches. Sometimes, coaches know a player and want to see him put up particular testing numbers before offering. Other times, coaches are surprised by an unknown player and simply have to extend an offer.
LJ Allen, 6’3 185, WR- Burns: Allen is a tough, big-bodied receiver and after a visit to Appalachian State, the 2023 playmaker earned an offer from the Mountaineers.

As soon as he did, Brown’s recruitment picked up. He turned in a strong performance at Virginia Tech’s megacamp over the weekend, picking up a Norfolk State offer in the process.
