Have a look which five prospects continued to blossom from South Dakota, Colorado, and the Hawkeye State.
Robert Hutchinson Robert Hutchinson WR SF Jefferson | 2023 State | WR | Sioux Falls Jefferson (SD) | 2023
Robert showed off good speed from the start of his routes, but watching that speed get more juice as he finished his routes was fun to watch on Sunday in Sioux Falls. This young man has a solid finished product when it comes to his stamina and finishing strong with his burst. This young man is a strong asset on intermediate routes, with a solid vertical and a quick trigger with his stopping ability that has some development coming, by digging up less turf as he grows into the 2022 season. He also as good balance when he high tops the football at the top of his route. Still under the radar, but I like the next-level ability of this young man as yet another asset for 11AAA All-State QB Taylen Ashley Taylen Ashley 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State .
Ty Young Ty Young 5'11" | 190 lbs | TE Loveland | 2023 State CO | LB/TE | Loveland (CO) | 2023
Ty showed off a high level of mobility from what I watched on Sunday in Sioux Falls. This young man is really twitchy when turning from side to side and showed consistency with this movements in testing and the incoming Indy Drills. Watching this young man on tape is very compelling. At Loveland, Ty lines in the tight end position, but he’s not your stereotypical tight end. I mentioned that mobility, and that mobility Ty has shoots out like a cannon off the snap. I caught some earlier tapes where I had to rerun the tape due to the surprise, and speed this young man comes out with. Ty has strong balance and has really effective hands in high traffic areas with sound balance. I for sure see him at WR at the next level due to his measurables, but this All-Conference and All-Conference TE certainly has a next-level future in my eyes due to his strong performance at Augustana.
Peyton Wojtanowicz | RB | Rapid City Stevens (SD) | 2023
The new RB1 for the Rapid City Stevens Raiders had a full plate of camps this week, as he shows off what the future looks like in the backfield. Peyton ran with significant power and solid foot speed thru the bag drills I got to watch at Augustana. He’s a different type of RB than 2022 RB1 Uriah Glynn, but shows a lot of upside from when I watched his JV tape from last season. He shows a high endurance insider runner that starts off with a jolt once the ball reaches his hands and provides more durability and power at 5’11 205 once he approaches the second level. A one-cut back, I can’t wait to see more of Peyton in full reps as we get into the 2022 season as he’s already had a good end to his heavy camp week, picking up a NAIA offer already here in Mid June.
Cale Pittenger Cale Pittenger 6'1" | 260 lbs | DL Sioux City East | 2023 State IA | DL | Sioux City East (IA) | 2023
Cale came away with showing sufficient balance in his feet when I got my first look of him in 1v1 drills at Augustana. I was impressed with his speed getting off blocks as he powered thru some quality contact to get into the backfield to wreak some havoc. As a DT for Sioux City East, I was quite impressed with Cale’s tape with how mobile he was around the box. He had 14.5 tackles for a loss in 2021 and I would expect that number to rise in 2022 based on that better balanced footwork he possessed at prospect camp on Sunday afternoon. He shows solid hands off the ball, but I believe this young man has more development in his football tank by making those hands more physical to rip and tear thru the offensive line with more sophistication. I know our new NW Iowa scout Marty Millard will have a close eye on this kid come this summer as he’s got solid upside for the next level.
Elijah Dougherty Elijah Dougherty 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB LeMars | 2023 IA | RB/LB | Le Mars Community (IA) | 2023
I enjoyed watching Elijah thru 1v1s as his durability with his route-running caught my main attention. It CERTAINLY does not take long to see what I saw on Sunday on tape from Elijah’s last season at Le Mars Community. He shows that he can beat the rush of the linebackers early and carry some defenders for his handful of yards after contact. I also really like this young man’s vision, as Elijah doesn’t need much space to operate between the tackles in his 6’0 200 pound body as he shows off. If I am a squad that plays Le Mars in 2022, you might want your best tacklers available to take this young man to the turf as his game film shows it takes a small army to take him to the turf. Elijah is way too under the radar, and it’s quite surprising to me.
