Red Martel
Red
Martel
5'11" | 195 lbs | RB
Beggs | 2024
State
OK
– Beggs
(Ranked #3 Overall – #1 RB)
From the very first ranking of the state’s 2024 class, Beggs running back Red Martel Red Martel 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK has been in the top spot for running backs and there’s been no doubt that he’s the best in the class. Martel was the number two back behind OSU-bound CJ Brown last year but now he’ll be the feature back in Beggs’ offense and we believe that Martel is ready to be one of the more productive backs in the state in terms of numbers. His numbers last year were impressive despite splitting carries with Brown and even 2025 star Ryan Grayson Ryan Grayson 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Beggs | 2025 State OK . But Martel is primed for an even bigger 2022 campaign. When we last saw him in person, he had trimmed up and kept his speed along with that power and is becoming a more dangerous weapon for Beggs on the offensive side. This spring, he got some reps with the defense at cornerback but we’re keeping him on the offensive side as the state’s top running back for 2024.
Micho Lavine
Micho
Lavine
6'3" | 210 lbs | ATH
Millwood | 2024
State
OK
– Millwood
(Ranked #14 Overall – #3 RB)
Millwood running back Micho Lavine Micho Lavine 6'3" | 210 lbs | ATH Millwood | 2024 State OK had a fantastic freshman season and became a breakout star for the Falcons. Then he missed his sophomore season due to an injury and has to be hungry to get back onto the field. Lavine and the Falcons will be one of the hungrier teams in the state this fall after a rare season where Millwood missed out on the playoffs. With Lavine back, along with the majority of their starters, they’ll be taking out some of their frustrations from last season on their opponents this year. Lavine has combined with Rickey Hunt Jr Rickey Hunt Jr 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Millwood | 2023 State OK to make up one of the best backfields in small school football across the state. With him and Hunt back again this fall, look for them to not only put up productive seasons, but help lead Millwood back to contending for the state championship. Lavine is a big and physical runner and we’re looking forward to seeing his return to the gridiron.
Larontae Clayton
Larontae
Clayton
6'1" | 205 lbs | RB
East Central | 2024
State
OK
– East Central
(Ranked #47 Overall – #4 RB)
It’s been a few years since East Central was a real threat in Class 5A football but perhaps this fall will be different for the Cardinals. They bring back one of the better running backs in the Tulsa area that you probably haven’t heard of with Larontae Clayton Larontae Clayton 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB East Central | 2024 State OK . We hadn’t heard of Clayton either before our “Friday Film Review” series in March and April. We were very impressed with Clayton’s film back then and nothing has changed with the evaluation since then. Clayton is a big and powerful back that as he continues to trim up and improve in the speed category, he’ll be able make more home run type plays. Clayton is definitely a prospect to keep on the radar when it comes to this 2024 class. He might be more of an underrated runner as of right now but that won’t be the case by the end of this fall.
Tre Stevenson
Tre
Stevenson
6'0" | ATH
Perkins-Tryon | 2024
State
OK
– Perkins-Tryon
(Ranked #54 Overall – #5 RB)
Another underrated running back in this class is Tre Stevenson Tre Stevenson 6'0" | ATH Perkins-Tryon | 2024 State OK out of Perkins-Tryon. Stevenson had an outstanding sophomore season for the Demons and was a breakout star in Class 3A. That’s a class that was dominated by the private schools but Perkins-Tryon got plenty of production from Stevenson and with him returning, they’ll be a fun team to watch. Like several other backs on this list, Stevenson plays multiple positions and also had an impact on the defensive side of the ball. But in our opinion, his biggest impact to the game is at running back on offense. He put up some really strong numbers and with Perkins-Tryon losing their quarterback to graduation, Stevenson should be ready to take more of a role within this offense and could flirt with even bigger numbers as a junior. He was incredibly productive last season but should be ready for even more of a workload this fall.
Marco Smith
Marco
Smith
5'10" | 190 lbs | RB
Sapulpa | 2024
State
OK
– Sapulpa
(Ranked #60 Overall – #7 RB)
It’s hard to consider Sapulpa running back Marco Smith Marco Smith 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Sapulpa | 2024 State OK a potential breakout star for this upcoming season when you look at the production he had last year as a sophomore. Smith had over 1,000 yards and is back for more this fall. Like Clayton and Stevenson above, Smith isn’t as talked about when it comes to not only this state’s 2024 class but the overall running backs who can absolutely be game changers. Sapulpa brings back some serious talent, especially with Smith and the offense and they’re going into year two under head coach Tim Holt. This could be a big year for Smith and the Chieftains as they look to contend after moving down to Class 5A a season ago. Smith is a smaller back but he’ll be able to bring some explosiveness and playmaking ability to the Sapulpa offense this fall.
