Continue ReadingAcross the state, there are several prospects that have had themselves very productive Spring off-seasons and who are poised for huge 2022 seasons. Below, we will review and breakdown their film and highlight some of the top emerging prospects from across the state.
DE Matyus McLain Matyus McLain 6'4" | 215 lbs | DL Priest River HS | 2023 State ID , Priest River HS 2023
McLain is a raw and still developing prospect but had himself a very nice Junior season and is a natural pass rusher coming off the edge. At 6’3″ and some change, he is a rangy prospect that knows how to use his length off the edge and when collapsing the pocket. He shows a quick use of hands at the POA and is a natural bender while able to get underneath the punch and close in a hurry. Although playing at a smaller school, he is one of the top small school prospects across the state and a two-way playmaker.
QB Tegan Sweaney Tegan Sweaney 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Rocky Mountain | 2023 State ID , Rocky Mountain HS 2023
Sweaney is the signal caller for one of the top teams in the state and is a very smart pocket passer that moves through his progressions. He displays a strong pocket presence while showing a quick release and putting some good spin on the ball on short and intermediate throws. He is a very tough kid that can move the pocket and throw across his body on the run while flashing the ability to extend plays with his feet and deliver a blow upon contact. Mechanically impressive, he should be one of the top passers in Idaho for the 2022 season.
LB Jack Dennis Jack Dennis 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB Bishop Kelly HS | 2023 State ID , Bishop Kelly HS 2023
Dennis is a big part of a very strong linebacker core in the 2023 class across the state. He has ideal size and open field athleticism for the new age position and is very comfortable in coverage. Dennis is a downhill thumper that shoots the gap quickly and can make plays behind the line and is a very physical in the box player. He shows good lateral movement abilities when scraping over the top and can track down ball carriers that bounce it outside while exploding through contact and having a high football IQ and quickly diagnosing plays. In coverage, he can run with tight ends and running backs up the sideline and boasts a very balanced play style from his inside position.
WR Grayson Flatten Grayson Flatten 5'7" | 165 lbs | WR Mountain View | 2024 State ID , Mountain View HS 2024
Flatten is one of the top 2024 playmakers across the state and is a sure handed and quick twitched slot player. Off the ball, he is explosive and shows strong hands when making contested catches and can make defenders miss in the open field. Still working on downfield speed and range, he is an underneath threat that finds the soft spots in zone coverage and can settle effectively. Only a rising Junior, he will be one of the top receivers to keep a close eye on as we move into the season.
QB Peyton King Peyton King 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Hillcrest | 2024 State ID , Hillcrest HS 2024
King is an efficient passer that can move a bit and throw on the run downfield. He is a tough kid that does not force balls into bad situations and can throw on the run across his body. Although still working on arm strength downfield on deeper shots, he is only a rising Junior and has plenty of time to continue to develop as he progresses through his high school career.
