In the past few months, many players up and down the rankings have raised their stock, and in general, it’s important to keep in mind all ranked players are GREAT players! Today we re-visit the four defensive linemen at the “bottom” of the rankings.
Derek Gibson Derek Gibson 5'8" | 245 lbs | DL South Lake | 2024 MI – South Lake
There hasn’t been much social media or general news activity about Gibson, so his ranking didn’t change much. Gibb is a pure run-stuffer, and a good interior offensive lineman. My hope is that he’s had a productive offseason where he gets stronger and more agile. At 5’8″, 245lbs, his ceiling is a High School Jordan Davis.
Zachary Kelly Zachary Kelly 6'0" | 260 lbs | DL Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State MI – Forest Hills Northern
Kelly has been semi-active on social media, as he posted about his 325 Bench Press and 615 deadlift. I’m super excited to follow him this season, as he seems to be having a great offseason getting much stronger. He has a great, powerful bull rush on film that should be even stronger next season. If the bull rush is improved, in addition to better burs/hands, Kelly could surprise many people.
Carson Berkompas Carson Berkompas 6'1" | 180 lbs | DL Charlotte | 2024 State MI – Charlotte
A DE/TE, Carson Berkompas Carson Berkompas 6'1" | 180 lbs | DL Charlotte | 2024 State MI , is decently quick and posted a few sacks last season. There isn’t much new to say about Carson, and all I can say is I hope he’s gotten stronger and improved his mechanics.
Ben Radley Ben Radley 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE South Lyon | 2024 State MI – South Lyon
Radley, South Lyon’s defensive lineman of the year in 2021, had a good season last year but needs a good offseason to take the next step. He had above-average hands and overall technique last season, which makes me very optimistic for his 2022 season. As long as he’s gained muscle, he’ll be a great player.
