New players emerged in the latest update, and we are happy to rank a number of different “under the radar” linebackers in metro-Atlanta. Here are some new Atlanta area linebacker additions to the latest 2023 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Isaac Hubert Isaac Hubert 6'2" | 230 lbs | LB Creekview | 2023 State GA – Creekview
He’s been one of the most underrated defenders across the state for a while now, but Hubert rightfully made his way into the Top 100 prospects in Georgia in the latest rankings update, coming in at No. 98. After a gigantic sophomore season in 2020, Hubert had an impactful junior season, making 58 tackles and 16 TFLs to go along with 7.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. The 6-foot-2 230-pounder is also a standout in the weight room for Creekview, showing his power and strength in both the lower and upper body. With his senior season coming up in the fall, it’s safe to say Hubert’s best football is still ahead of him and we expect him to be one of the top defenders in all of North Georgia for the 2022 season. He’s a multi-sport star who excels in the classroom as well. His toughness, instincts, and sure-tackling ability are just a few factors that make him a D1 talent.
Raleigh Herbert Raleigh Herbert 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB West Forsyth | 2023 State GA – West Forsyth
Another underrated linebackers in metro-Atlanta, the West Forsyth Wolverine is a tough, instinctive linebacker with good size and speed at 6-foot-2 210-pounds. He’s coming off an excellent junior season last year where he recorded 108 tackles against 7A competition. The sure-tackler also made 11.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks. In addition, he made one INT and caused two fumbles on the season. He reacts quickly, gets off blocks, and knows how to deliver a hit when he meets the ball carrier. He plays hard, he plays until the whistle, and he brings an impactful spirit and presence to the defense. He’s become a vocal leader on the team and helps make sure everyone is lined up properly. He was insanely productive against the highest level of competition, and he’s done it for the past two years. His hard work has finally paid off, and the junior has recently received offers from Richmond, UAB, William and Mary, among others.
Sam Oppenheimer Sam Oppenheimer 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Johns Creek | 2023 State GA – Johns Creek
Looking for productivity? Then the junior from Johns Creek if your guy. A tackling machine at 6-foot-1 215-pounds, Oppenheimer was all over the field last year, making 153 tackles and 15 TFLs on the season while recording two sacks and forcing two fumbles. He’s a smart defender who does his job every play. He’s always in the right spot, he locates the football, and he does a great job of making a play on the ball carrier. He gets into the backfield consistently and doesn’t miss tackles. He has good form and knows how to drive the ball carrier backwards. He has a true nose for the ball and plays with intensity. He’s out looking for blood and knows how to lead a defense. He flashes on film and was always one of the top overall football players on the field. He’s ranked No. 150 in the state, but he has a chance to see his ranking climb more and more over time.
Jayven Briggs Jayven Briggs 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB Roswell | 2023 State GA – Roswell
The Hornets are coming off an excellent 2021 season and a deep 7A playoff run thanks for their stingy defense and play from linebacker Jayven Briggs Jayven Briggs 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB Roswell | 2023 State GA . A do-it-all athlete and overall football guy, Hall had a big junior season, making tackle after tackle on defense while helping out at running back. The athletic 6-foot-1 205-pounder was one of the top under the radar athletes in the region, making 153 tackles, 19 TFLs, 2 INTs, and over 200 total yards on the season on offense. He’s a sleeper recruit who has the talent, toughness, and instincts to play somewhere at the next level. He plays hard, he’s physical, and he knows how to sniff out a play before it gets going. He shows good burst and pursuit to the ball carrier, and when he’s around the ball, he’s going to make a play. He’s one of the leading returning tackles in 7A, and he’s bound for a gigantic senior season in 2022.
