Continue ReadingWith spring football in full swing, programs are getting an early idea of what it is their team may look like come the fall. Players are getting an idea of what is working for them as far as their training and diets are concerned. At the same time, new and veteran coaches are figuring out what may or may not be working for them. Whether it is the drills they do, or the scrimmage games played coaches and players are fine tuning their games on the regular. In this series I will be covering as many schools as I can, from as many different classes as I can. ln my second article of this series we will take a look at the class 7A Cabot Panthers.
Gavin Reardon Gavin Reardon 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Cabot | 2024 State AR #81
c/o 2024
TE/FB
Gavin Reardon Gavin Reardon 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Cabot | 2024 State AR is blossoming into a very reliable weapon for the Panthers. His 6’4″ 225lb frame is prototypical for young tight ends in this game. Reardon, if used correctly, could do some major damage on third downs and in the redzone. Gavin found himself to be very serviceable in short gain situations last season, I believe that we could expect to see a continuation of that in the 2022 season. I would love to see Gavin make some big strides in 2022 and make himself a “can’t miss” type of target.
Caleb Shirron #60
c/o 2023
Tackle
Caleb is a man on that field, imposing his will on opponents. Shirron is looking to build off of a successful 2021 season, where he was named 7A All-Conference. Caleb displays his raw power on that field. He is very solid in his run blocking, just as in his pass blocking. Caleb seems to have an endless motor, going until the whistle on every play. When Shirron pulls, you better watch out or you may end up in the dirt. Cabot’s QB must be very happy to have a big man like Shirron up front for him.
Caden Mimms Caden Mimms 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Cabot | 2023 State AR #48
c/o 2023
DE/LB
Caden Mimms Caden Mimms 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Cabot | 2023 State AR is a 6’3″ 225lb tackling machine. Whoever has the ball at that moment, if Mimms can see you, he can get to you. Caden is deceptively fast, he has great hands, and he keeps himself in good positions to make plays. Mimms also is good at making reads pre-play, sometime leading to his teammates making big plays. He has a good tendency to make others around him better, which is an invaluable trait to have in my opinion. If Mimms can keep building off of the foundation that he and his coaches have made for him, the Cabot Panthers have a beast on their hands.
Ross Baxter #34
c/o 2024
FS
At 5’10″ 185lbs, Ross Baxter plays the free safety position very well. His 4.9 40-yard dash gives him the game speed he needs to chase down a player on offense or cross the field to break up a pass. Baxter also has a 33″ vertical, making him a serious threat in defending the passing game. Ross shows that “ball hawk” type of ability that safeties need to have. He is looking to build off of a 2021 season where he had 37 tackles, and 3 interceptions. Watching his tape, it seems like opposing coaches just might not want to throw his way…at all.
