There were about 133 prospects in attendance, and it was a fantastic opportunity to get my eye on some great talent. In this article, I’ll discuss the prospects I heard most about during the showcase.
QBs
Ethan Hamby – Dakota – 2023
Hamby had an excellent day throwing the football. He was tested with many difficult throws against 1-on-1 coverage, and he consistently made impressive throws all over the field. It’s been quite the week for Hamby, as he’s just been offered by Lawrence Tech in addition to being invited to “QB1 The Selection” by Legacy.
Jaiden Sanders Jaiden Sanders 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB L’Anse Creuse | 2023 MI – L’Anse Creuse – 2023
Sanders was a standout performer at QB, with many coaches being highly impressed by his play. He doesn’t have many technical flaws, but his biggest flaw is his height, as he’s listed on hudl at 5’10. Sanders was slinging the rock, and I don’t think I watched him throw a poor ball all night. Some offers will come for Sanders as he’s been busy and performing well this offseason.
Alex Bueno Alex Bueno 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Rochester | 2023 State MI – Rochester – 2023
Always impressive, Alex Bueno Alex Bueno 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Rochester | 2023 State MI performed well. Many of his balls were perfect, placed into some difficult spots. He had just a few misplacements, and there are a few technical aspects of his lower body that could use work. All in all, I continue to be impressed by Bueno, and yet again, he’s placed in the top 3 QBs of a showcase.
RBs
Alan OuYang Alan OuYang 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB L’anse Creuse | 2023 MI – L’Ance Creuse – 2023
Coaches were RAVING about OuYang all evening, and there may be a few coaches disappointed I’m revealing their secret prospect. By the end of the night, everyone wanted to talk to OuYang. OuYang is FAST with an 11.3 100m and showcased borderline elite change of direction and lateral quickness. OuYang is a potential gem ready to break out next season after an injury.
Romele Reed – Lakeview – 2023
Reed was another RB that looked impressive. He looks the part, being a muscular 5’11 190lbs, and he showed great burst and focus throughout the combine. Upon further research, he was named one of the top RBs at Rising Stars. I’m excited to follow his progression in the regular season.
WRs
Tommie Boyd – Utica – 2023
I didn’t focus on WRs as much as I should have, but I know Tommie Boyd performed well. He displayed great hands and focus against 1-on-1 coverage. If any coaches are reading this, Boyd is a prospect to follow up on at a later camp.
OL
William Woodard William Woodard 6'0" | 295 lbs | OL Roseville | 2024 State MI – Roseville – 2024
I spent most of my time with the skill positions, but when I came over to the linemen, the consensus #1 performer was Woodard. During the one 1-on-1 I watched, he annihilated the opposing defensive lineman. His one big flaw is his height, but if he can grow a few inches, he could get some division 1 offers. Either way, I feel he should get DIII attention at his current height and skill level, with DII potential if he dominates this year and next.
Mohamed Ahmad – Fordson – 2023
I heard and saw great things in all 3 of the Fordson linemen who attended, but I was especially impressed with Mohamed Ahamad. His technique during initial drills was impressive, and he performed well during the 1-on-1 period. Fordson faces some of the best programs in the state every year, so he’ll get every opportunity to prove himself further. Right now, Ahmad is a DIII prospect with DII hopes if he stands out.
LBs
Anthony Lomakoski Anthony Lomakoski 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB Romeo Highschool | 2023 MI – Romeo – 2023
I’ve written a bunch about Lomakoski lately, and for good reason. He stands out on a Division 1 program known for its defense. He moved well today and consistently placed himself at the front of the line. He did not shy away from competition and took coaching well. Lomakoski is way ahead of the curve for strength and tackling, but he can use some work with his hips and footwork. If he can clean up his technique (which is already good), he has the opportunity to receive some nice offers.
Rob Harris – West Bloomfield – 2023
Coming from one of the elite programs in Michigan, Rob Harris is a muscular linebacker who moved well. I didn’t watch as many reps as I would have liked, but he was one of the best at every drill when I did watch. It will be exciting to see how he performs this coming season.
DBs
Darren Hawkins – Chippewa Valley – 2023
Coaches were impressed by Hawkins’s performance. The Chippewa Valley prospect was locked in and displayed excellent technique and 1-on-1 play. Based on what I heard and witnessed, he may have been the top DB in the entire camp. He’s a prospect I’d like to learn more about in the future.
DL
Carloes Speed – Holt – 2023
Here’s an underrated defensive lineman. Speed is an interior defensive lineman with good hands and initial getoff. Standing at 6’3 245lbs, he has the size to perform at the next level. He’s currently very good, but he needs to continue improving to get to the great-elite level. All in all, he showed promise against a good group of interior offensive linemen.
