New players emerged in the latest update, and we are happy to rank a number of different “under the radar” quarterbacks in the Atlanta and metro area. Here are some new Atlanta-area quarterback additions to the latest 2023 Prep Redzone Georgia Rankings.
Shaihi Brown Shaihi Brown 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Eagle's Landing | 2023 State GA – Eagle’s Landing
One of the top dual-threat QBs in the south metro-Atlanta area, Brown is a dynamic quarterback who can beat defenses with both his legs and his arm. He throws with touch down the field and does a good job of letting his receiver run underneath the ball. As a runner, he’s tough to bring down and appears to consistently be one of the better athletes on the field. He’s dangerous with the ball in his hands, but his ability to sling the ball around the field is what makes him worthy of being in the Prep Redzone Rankings. He was excellent as a junior last year and does a good job of letting his receiver make a play on the ball. He’s a fun quarterback to watch, and he’s bound for a gigantic season as a senior. Last fall, Brown threw for just under 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also added 248 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Ben Guthrie – Alpharetta
A quick and efficient passer from the metro-Atlanta area, Guthrie had an impressive junior season where he showed he can use his arm to win games. He throws well on the run and has a knack for fitting the ball into tight windows. Playing against some tough 7A competition week in and week out, Guthrie still found a way to be efficient and accurate with the ball each Friday night. He showed poise, pocket presence, and the ability to buy time in the pocket while looking to throw the ball down the field. He has a live arm and can put zip on it when throwing over the middle. The Alpharetta standout threw at .673% rate last fall, one of the best overall in the 2023 class. He also threw for 1,675 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. He’s more than desrving of a Prep Redzone ranking as he starts spring practice.
Hayden Clark Hayden Clark 6'1" | 200 lbs | QB Mill Creek | 2023 State GA – Mill Creek
A multi-year starter for the talented Mill Creek Hawks, Clark is coming off an efficient junior season as he helped lead the Hawks deep into the playoffs. He’s been accurate with the ball in his career and had had to go up against some extremely talented defenses each week. He’s been smart, efficient, and will occasionally sling the ball downfield for a big game. Mill Creek’s offense was tough to stop last fall and Clark was a big reason why. He threw for over 2,00 yards and just under 20 TDs last fall, and he’s expected to have another big season as a senior. He’s smart with the football, shows toughness, and will have plenty of weapons to throw too on the outside. He’s absolutely a Gwinnett County QB to know about in 2022 and recently earned his first offer from Reinhardt University.
One of the more underrated QBs across Gwinnett County, Kidd is an up-and-coming prospect who has a chance to really shine this spring once college coaches can see him throw the ball in person. His stats from last season won’t blow anyone away with his 1,655 yards and 13 touchdowns, but that should change as a senior in 2022. He has plenty of size at 6-foot-4 195-pounds with lots of raw arm talent. He throws with a lot of zip and knows how to push the ball down the field. Kidd can elude defenders and make plays with his feet while still learning and developing as a quarterback. As he progresses, he could see some D1 interest possibly coming his way. He’s full of potential, but has to put it all together in 20222. The talent is easy to see, and he has a chance to have one of the better seasons from anyone in the region this fall.
