Here are some of the the Top Returning Defensive Backs in Northwest Georgia.
Jacori McGee | 6’ 170 lbs | Campbell High School | Class of 2023
McGee finished 2nd in the state with 7 interceptions. The Junior Defensive Back plays with a high IQ, has a knack for pattern matching, and high points the ball extremely well. McGee, who is also being recruiting as a Baseball player, already has a football offer from Stetson. He is also receiving interest from Furman, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Georgia.
Sean Thompkins Sean Thompkins 6'4" | 330 lbs | OL Newton | 2023 State GA | 6’1 175 lbs | Central (Carrollton) High School | Class of 2023
Swain is ranked 12th as an Athlete in the state of Georgia and is also one of the best two way players in the state. The Central junior athlete was named First Team All State and Region 7-4A Athlete of the Year last season while finishing second in northwest Georgia with 6 interceptions. He has offers from East Carolina, Temple, Miss St, Duke , Georgia Southern, James Madison, Indiana, Hawaii, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and already has his commitment announcement scheduled for this summer.
JD Casteen JD Casteen 6'1" | 180 lbs | LB Creekview | 2024 State GA | 6’ 170 lbs | Creekview High School | Class of 2024
Casteen is one of the top returning Defensive Backs in northeast Georgia. He finished last season with 5 interceptions and was a key part of the Grizzlies’ defense that held eight opponents to two touchdowns or less while only allowing an average of 14 points a game against all opponents. Creekview finished 8-3 last season before losing in the 1st round of the playoffs to a tough Carrollton team.
Tyson King | 5’9’’ 160 lbs | Coahulla Creek High School | Class of 2023
King earned Class 3A All State Honorable Mention and 1st Team All Area honors last season. His 4 interceptions led the Colts’ defense and was 4th among northwest Georgia’s returning Defensive Backs. Coahulla Creek showed a glimpse of success, starting of 4-2 before ending the season on a 4 game losing streak. King and the returning Colts’ will be back in the lab working on capturing the formula that led them to success in the early part of last season.
Brant Bryant | 6’ 180 lbs | Sonoraville High School | Class of 2023
Bryant was named Best of Preps 2nd Team Defensive Back, and as a sophomore he was named 6 AAA 1st Team All Region as a Wide Receiver and DB. This year he was one of the state’s top contributors on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he has 4 interceptions, 4 pass break ups, 30 solo tackles, and 45 assisted tackles for a total of 75 tackles. On the offensive side of the ball, he was responsible for 32 receptions, 683 yards, averaged 21.3 yards a catch, and had 6 touchdowns. He is currently receiving interest from Furman.
Nicholas Beddington | 6’ 170 lbs | Sonoraville High School | Class of 2023
Beddington is another Sonoraville Defensive Back to Watch. In his sophomore year, he was named 2nd Team All Region as a Wide Receiver. This past year he had 4 interceptions, 24 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, and 34 total tackles. He also had 32 receptions, 419 yards, averaged 13.1 per reception, and 4 touchdowns as a receiver.
