Continue ReadingThe popularity of 7v7 continues to grow year after year, and is a great opportunity for young athletes to sharpen their skills while gaining some exposure. In my 7v7 Team Review series, I will cover some of the area’s 7v7 teams and the players that compete for them. Earlier in the month, the VA Spartans 14u made a run at the Battle Team Flex Elite 7v7 Invitational before losing in the tournament Semi Final to Team Flex Elite themselves. The program has traveled around the country to compete against the best programs in tournaments from Atlanta to Tennessee. The VA Spartans are a program that is making plenty of noise in the area and here are some of their top players.
Colin Capistrant Colin Capistrant 6'0" | 190 lbs | WR Briar Woods | 2025 State VA | 6′ 175 lbs | Wide Receiver | Briar Woods High School | Class of 2025
Capistrant has been a solid weapon for the VA Spartans 7v7 team. The Briar Woods rising sophomore is deceptively fast and has the ability to constantly get behind opposing secondaries. I’m interested in seeing more of his development this upcoming fall season as he enters into his sophomore campaign. He is already receiving interest from Virginia, James Madison, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Maryland, and William and Mary.
Brady Carmical | 6’1” 195 lbs | Quarterback | Briar Woods High School | Class of 2025
Carmical has a strong arm for a young gunslinger. He shows that he can make all of the throws and also does well throwing on the run while rolling outside of the pocket. He and Colin Capistrant Colin Capistrant 6'0" | 190 lbs | WR Briar Woods | 2025 State VA have been a deadly connection this spring and they should be a dynamic duo for Briar Woods HS for the next few year. The 3.8 GPA student also is receiving interest from UVA, V Tech, JMU, Syracuse, GA State, GA Tech, and William and Mary.
Landon Ellis | 6’2” 195 lbs | Wide Receiver | Woodberry Forest High School | Class of 2023
Ellis has been a big time play maker for the VA Spartans and Woodberry Forest. He earned 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All Central Virginia, and 2nd Team All State honors last season. The Woodberry receiver caught 30 passes for 568 yards, and scored 6 touchdowns in just 5 games in his junior year. I predict Ellis will see his recruiting skyrocket within the next few months, but he already has an offer from Dartmouth.
Gabe Bigbee | 6′ 160 lbs | Athlete | Patriot High School | Class of 2023
Bigbee, who is a recent National Honor Society inductee, is a game changer in all 3 phases of the game. He’s an all around athlete who runs a 4.4 in the 40 and makes plays as a receiver, defensive back, and specialist. The Patriot athlete was named First Team All Region as a Wide Receiver ,First Team All Region as a Punt Returner, 2nd Team All District, and Defensive All Purpose Player. During his high school career he has accounted for 2,000 total yards and 20 touchdowns over the 26 games in his career. He is receiving interest from Dartmouth, Davidson, Virginia Tech, Fordham, West Virginia, NC Central, UNC- Charlotte, Colgate , and Yale
Jabari Odoemenem | 6’1” 230 lbs | Athlete | Woodbridge High School | Class of 2023
Odoemenem is a versatile weapon who can be used in a multitude of ways on offense. He has the ability to line up outside, play in the slot, or move to the backfield as a H Back/ Tight End. He was named First Team All District and 2nd Team All Region as a Tight End. He has offers from Army, Navy, Georgetown, and Virginia State, but is also receiving interest from James Madison and Virginia Tech.
