This is a critical period of time for those athletes to grab the attention of the next level, build relationships and earn offers. We are going to see a lot of those offers coming in due to great camp performances. Whether at a team camp, Mega-Camp, or Showcase, I believe that there are a ton WI athletes who will earn their first college offers thanks to their talent. Today, I want to take a look at 5 WI athletes who don’t possess a D1 offer currently, but I am confident they will leave the month of June with one due to their talent and the show they will put on during camp season.
Nate Kollath Nate Kollath 6'4" | 235 lbs | QB Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State WI , ’23 QB- Sussex Hamilton
Nate has had a very active Spring leading up to the Summer camp season. The #1 dual threat QB in the state attended the regional Elite 11 event in Ohio. From there, the 6’3″ 225 lbs QB started taking several visits to D1 campuses. He visited Vanderbilt, Illinois, and Illinois State while also hearing from several other FCS programs. Hamilton also received visits from several D1 programs this spring where Nate was able to workout in front of each. Safe to say that Kollath has all the attention needed. All that is left to do is get out to camps where he can line up next to other QBs and show how much he stands out from the crowd with his strong arm. He is also going to stand out with his athleticism and big frame. This dude checks a lot of boxes. Arm talent. Athleticism. Size. Production vs elite talent. He is going to have a great camp season, and I expect it to lead to his first D1 offer. Nate’s Junior Season Highlights
Najeh Mitchell Najeh Mitchell 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH West De Pere | 2023 State WI , ’23 RB- West De Pere
One of the most exciting playmakers in WI is going to make a name for himself this summer. He is a big play waiting to happen. Literally any of his touches could result in 6 points. Najeh averaged a TD every 10 touches in 2021, and that might be just the beginning of a highlight filled senior campaign. The 5’9″ 175 lbs RB is his conference’s reigning RB and WR of the Year. That gives a glimpses into his three down ability and skills as a runner and receiver. Najeh is going to grab the attention of the D1 coaches as soon as he comes out of his stance in the 40 yard dash. Mitchell has elite speed that makes him a mismatch nightmare as evidenced by a laser verified 4.37 40 time. Between the timed drills, 1 on 1 battles, and coaches going back to the film I believe Najeh will come away with his first D1 offer. He already holds one D2 offer from Bemidji State. No doubt about it, more are on the way. Najeh’s Junior Season Highlights
Griffin Empey Griffin Empey 6'3" | 270 lbs | OL Stoughton | 2023 State WI , ’23 OL- Stoughton
The 6’2’ 260 lbs OL has a lot of exciting traits that translate to the guard position at the next level. Coaches are going to love that Griffin has a wrestling background, and a successful one at that. He was the heavy weight State Runner Up the twice in his first three years of high school wrestling. That understanding of leverage is going to standout at camps this summer as he stonewalls bull rushers and walks linemen off the ball in run game situations. Stougthon HS and Griffin has received visits from many D1 programs looking to get a closer look at Empey. To date, Griffin has been earning several D2 offers. MNSU- Mankato, Concordia- St. Paul, and Bemidji State have all offered him a scholarship. June is going to be his time to earn that elusive D1 offer. Griffin’s Junior Season Highlights
Cortez LeGrant Jr. ’23 RB- Sun Prairie East
The 5’11″ 170 lbs RB is an exciting playmaker that is going to shine at camps this summer. Cortez has elite level track speed, and D1 level change of direction and acceleration. He has a verified 4.37 40 time, 4.27 in the 5-10-5, 7.09 in the L Drill, 36″ vertical, and a 9’7″ broad jump. If he can match or beat these numbers on the big stage then you can bet he will be sending coaches back to the tape, which would then hopefully lead to an offer from the D1 level. That speed is further verified in his efforts to help secure Sun Prairie’s first 4X100 relay Title since 197 with a wild comeback sprint where he anchored the relay and brought home the victory. You wont find many athletes with this type of speed while also being a gifted football payer who has the vision, instincts, and patience to maximize his athleticism. Don’t miss out on him. He already holds D2 offers from Augustana University, and Bemidji State. Cortez’s Junior Season Highlights
Mitch Verstegen Mitch Verstegen 6'4" | 280 lbs | OL Kaukauna | 2024 State WI , ’24 OL- Kaukauna
The Class of 2024 is shaping into a great one. Five members of the Class already have earned at least 1 FBS offer. The next one up, in my eyes, is the massive OT from Kaukauna HS. Mitch played last season at 6’4″ 265 lbs. This offseason, Mitch has grown to 280 lbs. With that massive frame, the body control to be able to engage and maintain his blocks in the run game, and the length and reactive athleticism to pass block out at tackle. The big man has a 5.25 40, nearly 31″ vertical, and 8’8″ broad jump. Mitch is starting to prove that he has all the tools of being a D1 athlete, and if any member of the 2024 Class is going to earn their first D1 offer this summer then my money is on the big, athletic, strong Galloping Ghost OT. Check out his film. Mitch’s Sophomore Season Highlights
