The players in this articles all have displayed that on the gridiron, which is why they are considered some of the best in the city. These young men will have aspirations at playing the cornerback position on Saturdays on ESPN some day. We have named five top cornerbacks last time, but these players are not ranked in numerical order. Let’s take a quick look at some premier players in San Antonio at the cornerback position.
Kijuan Rodgers- 5’11 181Ibs/CB,SS/ James Madison High School
Analysis: Kijuan Rodgers is an upcoming prospect that can play with the best of them. He possesses good ball skills and instincts. In the passing game, he has a nose for finding the ball and acquiring interceptions. He plays good man coverage, as well as zone coverage. Rodgers is also physical in the tackling game which is a must at the corner position. This young man has the talent to accel and become great. Look for him going forward.
Quincy Amos- 5’11 170Ibs/CB/ Earl Warren High School
Analysis: Quincy Amos was a 1st Team All-District corner two years in a row! He racked up 33 tackles, 1 interception, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery, 23 catches for 332 yards and one touchdown. This young man can play both sides of the ball well. He has great hands, good in his back peddles, and does an excellent job at breaking up passes and making plays. He also has decent speed when he has the ball in his hands. Also, he is a good tackler being physical when needed. I think he will have an even better senior season the more he keeps playing the way he is playing!
Deshawn Washington- 5’11 175Ibs/CB/ Roosevelt High School
Analysis: Deshawn Washington is an under the radar cornerback in the city of San Antonio. On film, he has displayed excellent ability to go up and catch interceptions. He plays with a high motor as well and does a very good job at jarring the ball loose forcing incompletions. He is very good in man coverage and makes sure he stays on the wide receivers hip. Also , he has good technique when it comes to using his hands and back peddling. With some more development, I would not be surprised to see this young man rack up some offers!
Danny Salinas- 5’10 150Ibs/CB/ Somerset High School
Analysis: Danny Salinas is a sleeper player at the corner position. This young man has what it takes to become a really good corner. With good speed, and good hands, he has become a threat on the defensive side of the ball. Salinas does a superb job at breaking up passes. Then, he is not afraid to lay the wood on opponents when needed! He also possesses very good discipline and does his assignment to help the team. Next, he has great jump ball skills which is needed to catch over taller receivers. Look for this young man to have an excellent senior season.
Haeven Watson Haeven Watson 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Veterans Memorial | 2023 State TX – 5’11 160Ibs/CB/ San Antonio Veterans Memorial High School
Analysis: Watson was a unanimous 1st team All- District player last season. He is a phenomenal player at the cornerback position! This young man possesses superb jump ball skills like none other. He goes up and gets it! Also, he has very good speed, great in man and zone coverage, and has tremendous athleticism! He does a really good job at using his hands to jar the ball loose out of wide receivers hands. He is difficult to shake off as well. Watson will be looking to have an excellent senior season! Look for him to improve the more he plays!
