These young athletes are either just as good as the top prospects in the state, or they are still developing with tremendous potential to ball at the next level. The running backs on this list are young prospects who also help their team win games and makes a huge impact doing so. Let’s dive in and take a look at some sleeper players at the running back position in San Antonio.
Jason Love- 5’9 175Ibs/RB/ Brennan High School
Analysis: Jason Love from Brennan High School is an underrated running back in the San Antonio Area. Even though he is not the fastest, he plays with toughness and has good vision hitting the holes. He had a good season last year which is why he is one of the top returning running backs to look out for this year. Mr. Love also has the potential to become a great back with a little bit of development and coaching. Only a sophomore last year, this young man still has a long way to go, but he has the talent to compete with the best of them!
Jaydon Bailey- 5’10 185Ibs/RB/ Cibolo Steele
Analysis: Jaydon Bailey will be looking to have great season this upcoming season. He possesses great strength and size. When he is on the field, he is able to use his elusiveness to make plays in the open field. Mr. Bailey can also be an every down back at the next level as well. Bailey is a running back who you can count on to get you tough yards and punch it in on the goal line as well! Keep your eye out on this young man this upcoming season.
Bennett Flesher- 5’11 190Ibs/RB/ Alamo Heights High School
Analysis: Bennett Flesher is another sleeper running back that will be looking to have a great season this upcoming year. Even though he is not the fastest or the biggest, he plays smart. He possesses good vision when hitting the gaps. He is a very good blocker as well. Flesher is very strong though, and he is very difficult to bring down in the open field which makes him a good power back!
Carson Green Carson Green 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Ronald Reagan | 2023 State TX – 5’9 180Ibs/RB/ Ronald Regan High School
Analysis: Even though Carson Green Carson Green 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Ronald Reagan | 2023 State TX is an All-American, he is still a player that is slept on. His senior season, he will be looking to turn some more heads and make a huge impact for his team. With excellent power, good speed, and tremendous explosion, he is definitely one of the best running backs in the city of San Antonio. He is going to be a game changer for his team for his senior season, and without him, their offense suffers as well.
Nick Varalez- 5’10 196Ibs/RB/ Clark High School
Analysis: Nick Varalez racked up 1,497 all purpose yards last season which is tremendous. He is a very physical back trucking defenders with ease. When it comes to purely being a running back, this young man has all of the tools that make up a great back. With excellent power and vision, he poses a huge threat to defenses at the running back position. He does a great job at securing the ball while exploding through the gaps! He is also a versatile back with good hands which allows his offense to spread the ball around efficiently. Be on the lookout for him moving forward!
