The players were selected by coaches from around the state. They went through the traditional combine drills such as the L-Cone drill, 40-yard dash and the broad jump.
Here are some quick notes from standouts during various drills that players participated in for the Class of 2023:
Javius Burton | DB | Carolina (pictured above)
Burton displayed great speed on a pass breakup towards the sideline against a receiver who had a height advantage. He also showed excellent physicality at the line of scrimmage, jamming and rerouting his receiver and not allowing them to get any separation.
Tyler Chavis | K | Lexington
Along with football, Chavis plays soccer and really wowed us with his speed through the line during the 40-yard dash.
Anthony Wicker | RB | Mid Carolina
Wicker showed explosiveness in making his cuts in the L-Cone Drill and finished through the line, which is exactly what you need at the position.
Peter Blacks Peter Blacks 6'2" | 295 lbs | OL Ridge Spring Monetta | 2023 SC | OL | Ridge Spring Monetta
Blacks impressed us in the shuttle drill, showing good body control moving from one end to the other – watching his foot quickness was fun to watch as well.
Braylen Bowers | WR | South Aiken
Bowers has impressive speed going through the line on his 40-yard dash as he has great stride. He makes his sprints look effortless. He also took the top off the defense in the individual period on a post route where he burned the defensive back for a touchdown.
Harley Fox | LB | Lexington
Fox made an impressive interception against a running back where he jumped the route at the perfect time to cut the running back off to prevent the completion and make the play.
