Unlike his predecessor, New Mexico Highlands head coach Ron Hudson vowed to focus on recruiting and signing players from the Land of Enchantment.
After signing about a half dozen New Mexico prospects in February, NM Highlands recently added two more in-state players to its expanding 2022 roster with the signings of Cleveland DL [player_tooltip player_id="264996" first="Kendal" last="Ulmer"] and Farmington OL [player_tooltip player_id="135595" first="Kioni" last="Benally"].
Ulmer was one of the top defensive linemen in the state last season. He totaled 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and 2 QB hurries for the undefeated Storm.
Benally helped lead Farmington to an undefeated regular season and the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A playoffs. Benally was offered by NMHU last November and took his official visit to the school in March.
NMHU has already gotten a jump on the 2023 class by offering Bernalillo OLB/DE [player_tooltip player_id="208791" first="Jahvon" last="McChriston"]. Eastern New Mexico, University of Puget Sound and Bethel have expressed interest in McChriston.
