Continue ReadingSpring has officially sprung, so that means we are off to the races… track races, that is. I wanted to highlight some players who use their track speed to dominate on the gridiron in this feature. We have players from all over the state setting personal records (PR) and adding explosiveness to their football game by improving their speed. These are some high-caliber athletes!
Jaylen Lloyd Jaylen Lloyd 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE (WR – 2023) | Omaha Central | 5’10″ 160 lbs
With a state-leading time of 10.79 in the 100m dash, it’s no surprise why Omaha Central’s Jaylen Lloyd Jaylen Lloyd 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Omaha Westside | 2023 State NE is one of the best deep threats in the 2023 class. Jaylen has dominated the track with his blazing speed and nearly routine personal records. Lloyd’s speed translates exceptionally well to the gridiron, where he uses his 4.5 40 yard speed to blow away DBs off the snap and get behind the secondary. The Eagle’s speedster averaged over 22 yards per reception in 2021. On top of his elite speed, Jaylen is also one of the best triple (45’6″) and long (22’7″) jumpers in the state.

10.79 FOR LLOYD!! Takes the Boys 100m state lead from Genatone (North Platte) who set the bar yesterday. @LloydJaylen, from @opschsbt, was your POTW this last week in a fan vote!

Malachi Coleman Malachi Coleman 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Lincoln East | 2023 State NE (WR/ATH – 2023) | Lincoln East | 6’5″ 185 lbs
The video below says about all I need to say about Malachi’s speed. The top-ranked player in the 2023 class showed off his game-breaking speed with a 10.95 100m dash in his first meet of the year. In 2021, Malachi averaged 33 yards per catch mainly due to his speed and ability to get open in a flash. Once he hits the open field, he can kick on the jets and leave everyone in the dust. His speed and length could also see a defensive position change from defensive linemen to linebacker.
10.95 to start the season, LOTS of room to improve 💯 pic.twitter.com/IERopD8sK6

One of the most easily recognizable differences was the impact of @ChiColeman23.
His ascent shouldn’t be taken for granted because it’s coming.
Not only was he dominant on offense, he lead our defense in interceptions.
He’s a problem #NELITE 🦍👐🏼 pic.twitter.com/EWJeuGBNHr

Asher Jenkins Asher Jenkins 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Bellevue West | 2024 State NE (LB – 2024) | Bellevue West | 6’3″ 175 lbs
Asher is an up-and-coming player coming from the Bellevue West prospect factory. Jenkins is only a sophomore, but he is already turning heads on the football field and the track. Jenkins recently set a PR of 11.2 in the 100m and is a strong member of a strong 4×100 and 4×400 team. Asher is already pushing Wyoming-bound teammate LJ Richardson LJ Richardson 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Bellevue West | 2022 State NE ’s times on the track. Jenkins is an intriguing football prospect, mostly because he has tons of potential. As a safety/LB, he quickly closes in on his target and has a solid frame to deliver some tough hits.
The 100m battle continues between @asher_jenkins 🥈11.20 and @LJRichardson__ 🥉11.23

Beni Ngoyi Beni Ngoyi 6'4" | 195 lbs | ATH Lincoln High | 2023 State NE (WR – 2023) | Lincoln | 6’4″ 185 lbs
One of the top overall athletes in Nebraska, Beni Ngoyi Beni Ngoyi 6'4" | 195 lbs | ATH Lincoln High | 2023 State NE continues to amaze. Ngoyi is an absolute burner on the field with his 4.38 40 yard times and physicality. He is just as untouchable on the track with an 11.02 in the 100m dash and performance in the team 4×100. He tends to glide easily through defenses and can find the soft spots in the coverage. Worst case scenario, you can chuck it up his way, and his 42-inch vert should help Beni come down with the ball.
#18 Beni Ngoyi
Lincoln High School ‘23

Insta: bouncy.beniBeni is an uncommon talent. Most guys are either top-end fast or can accelerate well… he does both at what feels like light-speed sometimes.
Beni’s stock is only going to rise.. best days ahead📈 pic.twitter.com/VTQ35ljoVe

Kolten Tilford Kolten Tilford 5'9" | 165 lbs | ATH North Platte | 2023 State NE (ATH – 2023) | North Platte | 5’10″ 165 lbs
Kolten is a 2023 prospect that I’m excited to watch after a huge 2021 season. For now, we’ll have to watch Tilford set the track ablaze. He stepped onto the track for the first time last Friday and posted a nice 11.12 in the 100m dash. Kolten is also one of the legs on one of the state’s most devastating 4×100 teams with fellow gridiron Bulldogs; Vince Genatone Vince Genatone 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB North Platte | 2022 State NE , Tate Janas Tate Janas 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH North Platte | 2022 State NE , and Joseph Vak Joseph Vak 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB North Platte | 2022 State NE . Tilford was making plays all over the field in 2021 as he produced 106 tackles and provided sideline to sideline coverage. Kolten runs a 4.52 40-yard dash, and it shows with his on-field play. Combine his speed with quick instinct/reaction time, and you have a playmaking machine in your secondary.
Started the year off with an 11.12 100 meter yesterday, new PR. North Platte boys finishing 1,2,3. @genatone_v @joseph_vak @NPHSBulldogsFB pic.twitter.com/zLqk4mS2NI

Victor Isele Victor Isele 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Northwest | 2023 State NE (DL – 2023) | Grand Island Northwest | 6’2″ 220 lbs
COACHES… offer this man right now! Victor is the only player on this list that isn’t a skill position player. The dominant Northwest defensive lineman has been tearing it up this spring. Victor posted an 11.29 second time in the 100m dash as a 220-pound defensive end! Isele is a big man that moves scary fast. His speed translates very well to his game, especially in his get-off, where he can be off the ball in mere seconds. He can track down backs and scrambling QBs and has a non-stop motor. Very impressive athlete!

Collin Fritton Collin Fritton 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Lincoln Southwest | 2023 State NE (QB/ATH – 2023) | Lincoln Southwest | 5’11″ 175 lbs
Collin is not just one of the top 2023 QBs, but he might also be one of the fastest. Fritton is a seasoned QB who can make plays with his arm or legs and should take off in 2022. Collin has been putting in work on the track this spring and has a PR of 11.27 to back it up. Fritton is a dual-threat QB that can use his speed to move the chains. He is highly elusive in the open field and can accelerate in a flash. Collin boasts a 4.59 40 yard dash and could very much improve on his times before football season kicks off. Watch out for the Silverhawks QB1.
