The Prospect watch series has really given me the opportunity to put some prospects on the map. As a scout, you are always watching film trying to find that next difference maker that you can add to your list. Alot of players have the same talents as the next but some guys just slip through the cracks, going unnoticed. That is exactly what we don’t want to happen, it makes us feel good to see our guys get offers and the recognition they deserve. With that being said I have found 6 difference making linebackers looking to catch the eye of recruiters in 2023/2024!
Hayden Lacy ILB 5’9″ 190lbs Cypress Creek 2024
Lacy has some speed on his tape, he is a sideline to sideline run stopping linebacker that enjoys contact. Lacy is relentless in his pursuit to the football and meets ball carriers with violence! Heading into his junior season, Lacy has plenty of time to grow in his craft.
Nate Western ILB/OLB 6’3″ 215lbs SA Wagner 2023
2021 stats: 75 total tackles 40 solo 5 TFL
Western is an Intelligent player that doesnt get fooled from misdirection or play action, his length helps him see everything that is going on in the backfield! He is a traditional inside linebacker that plays better going forward, fighting through blocks and finding the ball carrier. Western plays 3-4 outside backer as well, showing his ability to rush the passer off the edge. Like I said Western is a smart player that uses his length and he does the same on the outside, getting his hands up to swat passes if the ball is thrown before he can get there, that brings value to a pass rush.
Brock Perry ILB 6’ 215lbs Willis HS 2024
Brock has good size heading into his junior season, that size and strength allows him to play down hill inside the tackle box and be a disruption in the run game. Also can be seen playing wide receiver, Perry demonstrates good ball skills and has excellent reaction on tipped passes to come away with the ball. He has sideline to sideline speed, chasing down runningbacks when they get to the outside. With more reps coming his way in 2022, Perry will see more opportunities to showcase his talents.
Ethan Colvin OLB 6’ 190lbs Ferris HS 2023
Track and powerlifting really translates to Ethan Colvin’ game! Ethan is an extremely high intensity player that takes the best pursuit angles straight to the football. He has a high motor and a burst of speed off the edge, constantly tormenting quarterbacks. Anybody in his way gets demolished, he doesn’t back down to anyone. He looks like a key piece in that Ferris defense, being played at inside, outside and the edge position. The thing that really showed me that this guy eats nails for breakfast is a play that I saw on film of him lined up at 3 tech defensive tackle in the GOAL LINE package, knife through a double team and meet the runningback in the backfield with a brutal hit that caused a fumble! Ethan is the definition of a difference maker and he will draw some attention his senior season and be a highly sought prospect come 2023.
Brandon Miyazono Brandon Miyazono 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Frisco | 2023 State TX OLB/ATH 6’2″ 215lbs Frisco HS 2023
Brandon Miyazono Brandon Miyazono 6'2" | 200 lbs | LB Frisco | 2023 State TX is an athlete that plays many positions at a high level, good combination of size and speed which allows him to put up 1,261 total yards and 16 total touchdowns on offense , while also having 8 TFL’s,1 sack,2 interceptions, 4 pass deflection and 2 forced fumbles on defense to show he is all over the field and doesnt come out. At inside linebacker Miyazono shows he is a versatile backer that can play backward or forward, in other words he can take away the run just as much as the passing game. Incredible football instincts and an excellent tackler with amazing closing speed. Miyazono is verbally committed to SMU, I’m excited to see what he does his senior season.
Tre Williams Tre Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Parish Episcopal | 2023 State TX ILB 6’3″ 220lbs Parish Episcopal 2023
Tre Williams Tre Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Parish Episcopal | 2023 State TX is a fast player at inside linebacker, being about to go sideline to sideline to make a play! He absolutely flies to the football, racking up 21 TFL’s which means Williams is in the backfield ALOT. And that’s from the inside linebacker position which is really saying something! Speed isn’t just his game, Williams has good size and is a dog when it comes time for contact with either a lead blocker or a ball carrier. Look for big things to come for Tre Williams Tre Williams 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Parish Episcopal | 2023 State TX for his senior year, I for sure will!
