Continue Reading2023 is shaping out to be a deep class when trying to find a defensive back. After finishing my 1-35 ranking of the Prepredzone 2023 DB’s, I have found 6 more prospects that aren’t ranked but still have the ability to make an impact on your football team.
Xylon Wadley | CB/safety | 6’2″ 170lbs | Johnson San Antonio | 2023 |
I enjoy watching this kid tackle, he will lay hits when the opportunity presents itself and wrapped up when he needs to just save a play. Attacks the ball post throw in zone and seems to maintain self control when in man coverage to not cause a PI but to also keep up with his man and understand when the ball is thrown. Smart player that could play multiple roles in a defense.
Willie Hicks | S | 6’2″ 180lbs | C.E. King | 2023 |
2021 stats: 73 total tackles 1 tfl 2 int 8 PBU 1 FR 1 FF 1 TD
Willie plays great off man coverage from back at his safety position, to the point where I know for a fact he can play corner. The way he reads the route of the receiver and fights for the football post throw is cornerback worthy. But let me tell you why he is a safety… the free Safety position allows you more opportunities to make plays in the pass game as well as the run game. Hicks plays hard and fast from 15 yards deep, this is an aggressive tackler that let’s you know he is there all day but can also lock down his man if needed.
Jamarion Ravenell | S | 5’9″ 160lbs | Desoto | 2023 |
2021 stats: 2int 4 PBU 66 total tackles 2 FF
Ravenell is a cover 1 deep Free Safety. With his speed and range, he is able to identify the play quickly and be right where the ball is on deep throws. In the run game Ravenell is a monster, if a runner gets past the linebackers then he is about to get lit up and most likely lose the football. In conclusion Ravenell has a great feel for the game and should receive big time offers for his talents.
Kayvon Evans | CB | Fossil Ridge | 2023 |
An in your face press corner, Kayvon Evans brings alot of aggressive and intelligence to the position! I urge yall to go watch the film, this kid is so sticky and brings it every play! His football instincts are off the charts, he is always around the ball. Not just an arm tackler, Evans doesn’t back down from contact and will lay a hit if needed.
Jaylen Webb | CB | 6’2″ 170lbs | Kennedale HS | 2023 |
Jaylen Webb is not just a great prospect at cornerback , but just an all around great football player. A corner that absolutely shuts down his side of the field with 4 interceptions and 6 pass deflection. Webb has also been effective when blitzing from outside corner with 2 sacks. As well as having 4 tackles for loss as well to show he can do more than just cover.
Liam Scullin | S |6′ 210lbs | Byron Nelson | 2023 |
Liam is a versatile player , having lined up at outside linebacker, nickle , and ofcourse saftey (boundary and field.) He takes great angles to the ball carrier, full speed to the football and is fierce when making contact! You can tell Liam is a big fan of contact, either coming down hill to destroy a runningback or jarring the ball away from receivers attempting to catch the ball. He excels in zone coverage , locking down the flats, hook/curl or deep center field, waiting for the quarterback to make a mistake.
