Continue ReadingWhile the season is slowly but surely approaching us, their are plenty of athletes who are working out and grinding during the off-season to prepare for a long road ahead. Today, we will take a look at some of the most prominent linebackers in the Austin, Texas area to look out for in 2022. These linebackers are well disciplined, hard hitting, and are the leaders of their defenses. Some of these players are also underclassmen that are looking to make a name for themselves in the near future. Take a look at some of the young prospects on this list, and see why they are players to look for in the future.
Andy Estes- 5’10 180Ibs/LB/ McCallum High School
Analysis: Andy Estes is an under the radar linebacker to keep your eye on in the future. Clocking a 4.7 40 yard dash and 4 .6 shuttle, Estes has decent speed and quickness to play the linebacker position. Andy Estes does an amazing job getting pressure on the quarter back as well. He times his blitzes pretty well also. Estes is a really good tackler and can take on and shed blocks when he needs to. He plays physical with a high motor. If you need him to set the edge, he can also do that as well. Look for him to have a really good senior season, and hopefully rack up some offers from universities.
Alberto Martinez- 5’8 165Ibs/LB/ Navarro Early College High School
Analysis: Alberto Martinez is a linebacker that will only improve the more he plays and trains. Even though he is undersized, he has the potential too become a really good linebacker. First and foremost he does a really good job being disciplined and keeping his eye on the quarterback. He is a decent tackler, but needs more training on his fundamentals and mechanics. Martinez also has pretty good closing speed when it comes to pursuing the ball carriers. Finally, he is disciplined doing a good job staying at home and not allowing cut back lanes to open up. Watch for him to get better and have a good junior season in 2022!
Alex Foster- 6’2 175Ibs/LB/ Vandegrift High School
Analysis: Alex Foster is a young and developing linebacker that has also shown a good amount of potential playing linebacker. When you watch him play, he makes sure he stays in his gaps to make a tackle. He also has really good speed for his size, and can help deflect passes or cause interceptions in coverage as well! Foster has also forced fumbles last year and he is also versatile because you can play him at the safety position as well. He will only get better with more experience while also becoming a more physical linebacker! Look for him to have a great junior season as well!
Ben Booher- 5’8 195Ibs/LB/ Vandegrift High School
Analysis: Ben Booher is looking to have a good senior season this year. Even though he is not the fastest or the biggest, he can still play at a high level. Booher does a good job at shedding blocks in the middle. He also does a really good job at using his strength to even take on multiple blocks in the same play to make the tackle. His pursuit angels are also superb as well, which is crucial because he will only need to train and develop more speed. Despite this he is an extremely physical tackler. Booher also has a stout build as well. Just a sophomore last season, Booher is looking to improve and have a great season in the fall of 2022!
IV Webb IV Webb 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Anderson | 2023 State TX – 6’2 210Ibs/LB/ Anderson High School
Analysis: IV Webb IV Webb 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Anderson | 2023 State TX had a really good year last season! He had a total of 125 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles. He led the district in tackles last season as well. He has decent speed clocking a 4.7 40 yard dash, but he is also very quick for the linebacker position clocking a 4.3 shuttle time. Webb plays physical in the box, and is a tremendous tackler as well. He can also force pass break ups, and he has made goal line stops by himself in big moments! Webb does an excellent job closing in on his opponents which makes it difficult for the ball carrier to get away. IV Webb IV Webb 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Anderson | 2023 State TX is a true playmaker on defense and he is always someone to account for. Moving forward, look for him to have an outstanding senior season!
