As I was editing the rankings, I wanted to significantly improve a few rankings based on potential but ultimately decided it’s best to wait until the season plays out. In this article, I’ll be going over five athletes I could see significantly rising following the 2022 season.
Desman Stephens II Desman Stephens II 6'2" | 205 lbs | DB Clarkston | 2024 State MI – DB – Clarkston
I currently have Desman Stephens and Ty Hudkins Ty Hudkins 6'0" | 190 lbs | DB Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI nearly neck-and-neck in the rankings, and I could see both athletes rise after next season, but I think Stephens has a unique opportunity. Last season, Stephens posted impressive stats, including five interceptions and eight deflections. With Clarkston being a D1 team in the OAA Red, they always face some of the best teams in the state during the regular season, and this coming season will be no different. If Stephens performs as well as I think he can, then the offers will come his way, then the boosted ranking.
M’khi Guy M’khi Guy 5'7" | 165 lbs | ATH Muskegon | 2024 State MI – QB – Muskegon
An athlete I am immensely excited to watch, M’khi Guy M’khi Guy 5'7" | 165 lbs | ATH Muskegon | 2024 State MI , will take the reigns of an electric offense on a historic program. I know the Muskegon coaching staff is highly enthusiastic about their young QB, but in general, we haven’t seen or heard too much about him. We know that he performed well at the JV level, a stud basketball player, and his athleticism is off the charts. I expect Muskegon to be a state-championship contender this coming season, and Guy could make his way out of the Watch List and into the top-50 by December.
Brody Kosin Brody Kosin 6'6" | 225 lbs | TE Clarkston | 2024 State MI – TE – Clarkston
Kosin is 6’6 225, with a nearly identical height/weight to Prieskorn and Mesman, though he has a slightly inferior resume to the two. I’ve talked extensively about the 3 Elite TEs of this class, though Kosin, for the time being, will be ranked much lower than the top-2, for much of the reason being lack of offers. But honestly, although the resume isn’t as good, the potential is 100% there, and Kosin has been working hard to make sure he performs at an elite level. With a coaching and QB change at Clarkston, it will be interesting to see how Kosin will be utilized.
Chaz Vida Chaz Vida 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR West Catholic | 2024 MI – WR – West Catholic
An intriguing player out of one of Michigan’s most successful programs, Chaz Vida Chaz Vida 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR West Catholic | 2024 MI is finally getting his opportunity after an injury-filled 2021. For now, he’ll be pretty low in the rankings, but I see massive potential in his game and West Catholic as a program. He’s shown flashes of great route running and excellent hands for his size. In addition, he works out at PowerStrength, which is a huge plus.
Miguel Botello Miguel Botello 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2024 State MI – OL – Muskegon
The 6’4 Sophomore has consistently impressed throughout his High School career and going into the 2022 season, and I expect improvement from his already great 2021 season. I remember Veer camp during my time at Seaholm, and I recall the Muskegon linemen always being top-tier, with many being afraid to go against these hard-working, well-coached athletes. I’m immensely excited to see what Botello can do, and if he performs excellent, he’ll rise even higher than the #8 lineman in his class.
