The city of Austin has a lot of talented players that will take their talents to the next level at every position, especially at the defensive lineman position! We will dive in, and analyze why the players on this list have earned the right to be recognized as some of the best defensive linemen in the city of Austin. Let’s buckle up, and let’s applaud the talent and hard work of these young talented prospects.
Jayden Cofield Jayden Cofield 6'2" | 330 lbs | DL Manor | 2023 State TX – 6’3 325Ibs/DT/ Manor High School
Analysis: Jayden Cofield Jayden Cofield 6'2" | 330 lbs | DL Manor | 2023 State TX is a defensive tackle that you must keep your eye on in 2022! He has a stout build and definitely carries a lot of weight on him! Cofield does a really good job bull rushing opponents and getting pressure on the quarterback. He forces fumbles and is an excellent tackler. Cofield is not afraid to play physical at the point of attack, and has decent speed for a big man his size. Also, he is a wrecking ball in the middle of the trenches because he caused missed snaps or simply puts fear in opponents on the line! Look for Jayden Cofield Jayden Cofield 6'2" | 330 lbs | DL Manor | 2023 State TX to have an excellent senior season in 2022!
Wesley Donner- 5’11 238Ibs/DE/ Manor High School
Analysis: Wesley Donner is a young sophomore on the rise. Donner has shown quickness and explosiveness off of the snap of the ball. He can set the edge very well and is a physical tackler ! He has really good closing speed when pursuing ball carriers too! This young man can also blocks punts when he uses his athleticism on special teams. He is a forced to be reckoned with because he is always in the opponents backfield. With more training and development in the next couple years, I see Wesley Donner becoming a super star at the defensive end position if he keeps up his style of play!
Jaxson Woolridge- 6’0 267Ibs/DT/ John B Connally High School
Analysis: Jaxson Woolridge is an under the radar defensive tackle to look for this upcoming 2022 football season. Woolridge is quick for his size, and has the explosiveness to force turnovers as well. Also, Woolridge possesses good strength benching 285 pounds, and squatting 450 pounds in the weight room. On the gridiron he has shown that he has the ability to be a great tackler, and play physical hitting ball carriers hard and getting pressure on the quarterback, or even forcing fumbles for that matter! Keep in mind he is just a sophomore, so he still has two years to develop! He is also very disciplined maintaining gap integrity consistently, even when taking on double teams. Look out for him in the future!
Felix Torres- 5’11 225Ibs/DT/ Hutto High School
Analysis: Felix Torres is an underrated talent that needs to be recognized as well. This young man can shed blocks very well and make excellent tackles in the box or in the backfield! Torres is very physical on the line as well. Also, he is very quick and fast for a man his size. He possesses great strength and technique which is very important for an undersized defensive lineman. Torres is also very disciplined and maintains gap integrity consistently preventing cutback lanes from opening up. In the future, Felix Torres will only improve and become better. Be on the look out for him in 2022!
Jack Ziebell- 6’4 287Ibs/DT/ Westwood High School
Analysis: Jack Ziebell is a young prospect to keep an eye on in the future! he can play both sides of the ball at a high level as well! Specifically, at the defensive lineman position, Ziebell does a really good job of playing physical, shedding blocks, making tackles, and simply wrecking havoc on offensive opponents. He is a lineman that is a playmaker! Next, he does a really good job at forcing fumbles in the box or in the backfield too! Jack Ziebell is very strong, and can take on one or two blocks, while still making a play which shows his athleticism as well! Finally, he also has really good technique and stays low and drives which allows him to have leverage every time. Moving forward, watch out for Jack Ziebell, and expect him to have a phenomenal season at Westwood High School!
