We continue with Phase 3 of our ‘City Series' by taking a look at the top wide receivers in southern New Mexico entering the 2022 season:
[player_tooltip player_id="137921" first="Kaden" last="Trevino"], Hobbs: After gaining valuable experience as a sophomore in the shortened and delayed 2021 spring season, Trevino emerged last fall as one of the top wide receivers in the state and goes into the 2022 campaign as a legitimate New Mexico Heisman contender. His 59 receptions in 2021 were 6th highest in the state and he's the No. 2 returning WR in terms of receptions behind only [player_tooltip player_id="137928" first="Kellan" last="Gehres"] of Albuquerque Academy.

[player_tooltip player_id="274714" first="Zakye" last="Hawkins"], Las Cruces: If there's one WR in southern NM who mirrors La Cueva's [player_tooltip player_id="208744" first="Exodus" last="Ayers"] and his elite jump-to the-moon athleticism, it's Hawkins. Just watch his film. And he'll just be a junior in 2022 too, meaning he'll be catching passes for the Bulldawgs for the next two seasons. This coming season he could easily double the 29 receptions for 690 yards and 11 TD he amassed in 2021. He's an outstanding baseball player, as well. He could play either sport at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="137930" first="Isaiah" last="Abeyta"], Centennial: We talked about Abeyta yesterday as a potential breakout player in 2022. He was a huge factor in Centennial's district title last season and should be again in 2022. As we said, he'll combine with RB [player_tooltip player_id="208691" first="Mikah" last="Gutierrez"] to give the Hawks one of the most dynamic RB-WR duos in the state. Abeyta was a First-Team All-District performer for Centennial in 2021.

[player_tooltip player_id="138039" first="Robert" last="Nora"], Clovis: As we know, Clovis is a storied program and Nora has the talent to become one of the Wildcats' best receivers in recent years. He had 33 receptions for 674 yards and 7 TD as a junior in 2021. He averaged better than 20 yards per reception. He'll be one of the top pass catching threats in Class 6A this coming season as Clovis looks to rebound from a 3-7 record last fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="274793" first="Peyton" last="Greathouse"], Artesia: Who will be Hawkins' main competition for best WR in southern New Mexico in 2023? Most likely, Greathouse. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the Class 5A championship game last November as a sophomore and now that Los Lunas and Farmington have moved to Class 6A, Artesia is a favorite to get there again. Of course, the Bulldogs must find a quarterback to get Greathouse the ball but that hasn't been a problem for Artesia in past years. Greathouse is primed for a big season in 2022 and beyond.
Honorable Mention: [player_tooltip player_id="138043" first="Eli" last="Asay"] (Carlsbad); [player_tooltip player_id="137934" first="Jacob" last="Maes"] (Las Cruces); [player_tooltip player_id="138061" first="Kaden" last="Sago"] (Ruidoso); [player_tooltip player_id="138083" first="Marcus" last="Armijo"] (Socorro); [player_tooltip player_id="138086" first="Joshua" last="Duran"] (Dexter); [player_tooltip player_id="208823" first="Roman" last="Murilo"] (Lordsburg); [player_tooltip player_id="269534" first="Ethan" last="Vanlandingham"] (Hobbs); [player_tooltip player_id="274788" first="Ashton" last="Thompson"] (Eunice); [player_tooltip player_id="275111" first="Kevin" last="Villalobos"] (Dexter).
