There are sleepers in every position, but the 2023 running back group has a significant amount of under-the-radar talent. Below is a list of six running backs poised to have phenomenal senior seasons.
Carlson Tann Carlson Tann 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Cherry Creek | 2023 State CO | Cherry Creek | 5’10”, 172lbs
Tann is an underrated running back with the upside of an absolute stud. He is a well-rounded back who possesses a balance between speed and power. He plays with excellent pad level, especially when running between the tackles. Once he reaches the second level, he becomes just as challenging to bring down as he is to catch. Tann is a three-time 5A state champion looking to add a fourth title to complete his high school career, making him a prime prospect.

Diego Cearns Diego Cearns RB Eaglecrest | 2023 State CO | Eaglecrest | 5’10”, 170lbs
Cearns is an electrifying player who puts on a show whenever the ball is in his hands. He has the speed of a sprinter, which makes him a problematic runner to contain and almost impossible to catch once he reaches the second level. Cearns can also be a valuable member of an offense’s passing game, giving him the versatility needed to contribute to any offensive program.

Tyree Trusty Tyree Trusty 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Columbine | 2023 State CO | Columbine | 5’11”, 195lbs
Trusty is a running back whose stock has recently seen a significant rise. He is a powerful runner with great size and strength. He is patient enough to let the blocks develop, and he has incredible speed that enables him to blow through the defense’s second level. Trusty’s size and strength make him a difficult runner to bring down, while his overall speed makes him tough to catch.

Brycen Mhlanga Brycen Mhlanga 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Littleton | 2023 State CO | Littleton | 5’10”, 205lbs
Mhlanga is a sleeper of a prospect who has the potential of being a top-tier running back. He is an explosive runner with phenomenal speed, especially for a player of his size. His versatile skills give him the ability to line up as a receiver and outrun defensive backs or make contested catches. Mhlanga is a player with a solid build, formidable strength, and breakaway speed, which are only a few of the qualities that make him a prime prospect with tremendous upside.

Ryan Doucette Ryan Doucette RB Roosevelt | 2023 State CO | Roosevelt | 5’10”, 160lbs
Doucette is another versatile athlete who has been floating under the radar. He is a shifty runner with great acceleration and explosive cuts. He shows good strength and decent overall speed, but what stands out on film is his work ethic and unwillingness to quit. Doucette is a low flyer worthy of a closer look.

Phallen Salvati | Palisade | 5’8”, 160lbs
Salvati is probably the biggest sleeper on this list, which says a lot. He is an explosive runner with excellent vision and an extra gear when he gets to the second level. He has significant power in his legs that make him extremely difficult to bring down. Salvati is an under-the-radar player who has the potential of being an absolute steal as a prospect.
