But to have two potential house-call artists lining up on every play is a rarity.
These five Class 4A programs will have exactly that this fall. All 10 of the listed receivers have not only extensive experience heading into the 2022 season, but also the type of potential to pile up some huge stats.
Having two of those types on one offense? Look no further than these five schools.
NORTHWESTERN
We don’t need to remind you what Elijah Caldwell Elijah Caldwell 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Northwestern | 2023 State SC did last season. But we’re going to anyway. He caught 77 passes for 1,247 yards and 15 touchdowns. After him, the Trojans often looked to Christian Watkins Christian Watkins 5'7" | 145 lbs | WR Northwestern | 2022 State SC . With Watkins out of eligibility, the next man up is William Brooks William Brooks 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Northwestern | 2023 State SC . The rising senior was third on the team with 25 receptions, which he took for 282 yards and three scores. All of those numbers will improve this fall.
RIDGE VIEW
The Blazers dropping back down to Class 4A means Ridge View’s offense won’t be asked to go up against the likes of Dutch Fork and Lexington and plenty of other during the region and playoff slate. And that could mean huge numbers for Zion Agnew Zion Agnew 5'11" | 160 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2023 State SC and Chris Lawson Chris Lawson 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2023 State SC . Last year, the two combined for 105 receptions for 1,703 yards and 17 touchdowns while each averaging north of 15.5 yards per reception. Ridge View may have to get creative to get them the ball this year, but that’s a luxury offensive coordinator Stephen Burris isn’t wiling to trade.
AC FLORA
Adonis McDaniel Adonis McDaniel 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2023 State SC ’s 36 catches for 500 yards and eight touchdowns and Chris Lofton Chris Lofton 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR AC Flora | 2023 State SC (28, 517, 6) form one of those one-two punches on the outside that would have looked even more dynamic if the Falcons didn’t also possess one of the best running backs in the state in Markel Townsend Markel Townsend 5'8" | 170 lbs | RB AC Flora | 2023 State SC . Lawson and McDaniel are absolute grinders, willing to go across the middle while also being able to get behind the secondary. Having two of those type guys will pay dividends again.
SOUTH FLORENCE
No one is going to look at South Florence’s passing stats from 2021 alone and think this was an air-raid capable squad. But those who know better know that the relatively limited numbers had quite a bit to do with LaNorris Sellers LaNorris Sellers 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB South Florence | 2023 State SC ’ absence midway through the year. In his absence, Evin Singletary (36 receptions, 748 yards, 8 TDs) and Jabray Johnson (17, 580, 8) still stood out. With Sellers back, the Bruins have a couple of outside threats on every single snap.
WESTSIDE
A pair of rising juniors – Josh Williams Josh Williams 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Westside | 2024 State SC (pictured) and Jimmar Boston Jimmar Boston 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Westside | 2024 State SC – will get another crack to take the field together after Williams missed all of last season with a hip injury. He’s healthy again, back in the full offseason swing, and the two one-time freshman starters will provide excellent targets for new quarterback Cutter Woods. Considering Williams led the team in receiving yards in 2020 and Boston did it in 2021, the Rams won’t be lacking at receiver.
