Continue ReadingBattle 7v7 came to town, which is always popular and highly anticipated event. This is an invite only tournament that hosted national level HS 7v7 teams and some of the best athletes on the east coast. At last year’s event you could feel the electricity in the air, it was crawling with top ranked prospects and even some college coaches. I witnessed a player get invited to a prospect camp and trade contact info with a college coach on the spot after he ended the game with a big play. We are in the middle of the offseason 7v7 circuit in MD and some athletes have been drawing attention with their acrobatic catches, lockdown coverage, and impressive ball skills, let’s take a look at some players that stood out at last weekend’s event..
Trey Goodridge Trey Goodridge 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MDSure handed WR that plays way bigger than his measurables. Across the middle he does a great job of shielding the ball away from defenders. In jump ball situations he fully extends to high point the ball and snag it out of the air before the DB can get to the ball. Goodridge is a fearless receiver who’s film matches his off-season performance. He’s been dominating the 7on7 circuit since last off-season. He may be the most under recruited receiver in his class and on the stacked Team Flex National 7v7 team.

Anthony Gengarella Anthony Gengarella 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Nothwest | 2025 State MD “AG”
I’ve heard about this kid and watched his film but haven’t had a chance to see him in person until this past weekend. AG is a natural baller, he plays DB for his school but stood out at slot receiver during this tournament. He came up continuously in a big drive for his team making diving catches and catches through contact. His athletic ability will take him a long way, but the even more impressive part is that he’s a freshmen going into his sophomore year and was a significant part the Northwestern defense. He’s already playing at a dominant varsity level, it’ll be entertaining to see how he contributes in the 2023 season.

Kendell Anderson Kendell Anderson 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Blair | 2023 State MD
Anderson has really been proving his worth during this off season. Every showcase or camp somebody new is noticing his talent. Anderson is heating up, he has a busy April ahead of him with visits to Towson Univ, Campbell Univ, Delaware State, and Monmouth Univ. already scheduled. During this tournament I realized the violent zip and spin he has on his passes. I’m sure we can credit that to his baseball background. On the very last pass in the first video below he delivers a side arm strike with a baseball style throw, which is becoming a popular skill seen in elite level quarterbacks. Pat Mahomes, Kyler Murray, and Russell Wilson all have that skill and played baseball through college, this could make him much more valuable at the next level.

Kenny Johnson Kenny Johnson 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Dallastown Area | 2023 State PA
Johnson showed why he’s one of the top receivers in PA last weekend. Shorter DBs stood no chance in jump ball situations. He was an absolute weapon for Prolific Elite out of PA. He was a threat at any position on the field. To no surprise he currently holds offers from multiple D1 programs such as Penn State, Virginia Tech, & Pitt. Expect his offers to continue to pile up as he showcases his abilities through the rest of the off season.

Michael Brown Michael Brown 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Friendship Collegiate | 2024 State MD
Sophmore SZN – Offense – Brown’s Hudl highlights
Defensive Back – Brown’s Hudl highlights
Brown impressed with big time DB play in big moments. He showed major athleticism in coverage with a high vertical to bat away passes and fluid hips while keeping up with bigger receivers. He plays with a confidence and grit that stands out and affects the people around him, bringing the team up a notch in overall energy. While watching him he gained my trust; in coverage whenever the ball was thrown to his side you can expect him to at least get a hand on the ball. His game film does not disappoint you can see his athleticism and versatility jump off of the screen. He’s a homerun weapon on offense and physical on defense, even though he’s not the largest DB, he plays big.
Brenton Toles Brenton Toles 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Friendship Collegiate | 2024 State MD
Toles stock is slowly but surely rising. He currently holds 1 offer from Marshall Univ., he’s expected to add a few more by the end of next season for sure. He lead St. Mary’s Ryken to a WCAC Championship and was named 2nd team all-conference as a sophomore. Along with that his badges are piling up, he’s been invited to the Elite 11 regionals, Rivals – Charolette, and Under Armour Next camp. So far the schools that have been showing interest are Penn State and the University of Maryland. Toles has a lot of football ahead of him and is already at the top of his class, his recruiting will soon speed up. At Battle 7v7 he showed composure in a electric atmosphere and a very strong arm with touch to drop the ball right into the receivers hands. Talent is in no question when it comes to Toles, it will be very interesting to watch him grow even more as a QB and leader over the next two years.
