Continue Reading2023 and 2024 have some great prospects for the quarterback position. Previously I went over the top quarterbacks to watch in the North Texas area so I decided to carry that on to South/Central Texas! The statistics I provided were from the previous season played. Let’s get started!
Blake Baker QB 6’4″ 180lbs 2023 Cypress Ranch
2,400 passing yards 24 Touchdowns
Blake Baker is a big armed quarterback with good stature for the position. Baker has exceptional throwing mechanic and quick release that gets the ball out quickly when spotting his recievers! Watching him climb the pocket with patience while waiting for his reciever to create separation is impressive. Baker also brings the ability to throw on the run, under pressure with amazing accuracy that puts the ball right into tight window throws! This is a big time quarterback that I highly recommend taking a look at.
Brad Jackson Brad Jackson 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB San Antonio Reagan | 2024 State TX QB 6’ 165lbs Cypress Creek 2024
2,791 passing yards 412 attempts 29 Touchdowns
Brad Jackson Brad Jackson 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB San Antonio Reagan | 2024 State TX has that backyard gunslinger feel to him, anything to make a play! Escapes the pocket with elite quickness, accurate with off balance throws and when on the run, this guy just is a playmaker when everything breaks down! Jackson shows great feel for the game, he just looks completely aware like he has a 360° view of the field! With him still being a 2024 recruit, I’m excited to see what he turns into as his game grows!
Noah Ferris QB 5’10″ 160lbs Harlan 2024
1,211 passing yards 14 touchdowns 148 attempts 1 rushing touchdown
Noah Ferris has one of the Nastiest pump fakes I’ve seen in my scouting process, catching defensive backs leaning with that deception creates separation and big plays for his recievers. Noah has pin point accuracy that continuously puts the ball in the right position. Ferris gets the ball out fast, he throws with a quick release that makes it hard for defenders to sack. Throwing 14 touchdowns on 148 attempts means he was producing touchdowns at a high rate, if given more attempts Ferris has the potential to be a big name in Texas high school football!
Brayden Buchanan Brayden Buchanan 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Vandegrift | 2023 State TX QB 6’2″ 205lbs Austin Vandegrift 2023
3,017 passing yards 42 touchdowns 287 Attempts 7 rushing touchdowns
Brayden Buchanan Brayden Buchanan 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Vandegrift | 2023 State TX has a baseball backround that gives him more time to throw during the offseason to improve on power, and man does it show on film! Buchanan has a powerful arm with amazing accuracy on deep balls outside the numbers. With good size and passing mechanics Brayden Buchanan Brayden Buchanan 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Vandegrift | 2023 State TX shows control of the game play by play. Already receiving D1 offers from baseball, Buchanan is a prospect I am certain will have D1 offers for football calling soon!
Kai Callicoatee QB 6’ 160lbs Cypress Falls 2024
1,016 passing yards 586 rushing yards 8 passing touchdowns 5 rushing touchdowns
Kai is a hard guy to get your hands on, he is so elusive and leaves defensive linemen on skates when the pocket breaks down and he needs to go! You can tell he takes the time with his recievers and knows their strengths, the accuracy and placement of the ball on tight window and jump ball throws is too consistent to think otherwise.
Mason Shorb Mason Shorb 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Rouse | 2023 State TX QB 6’3″ 175lbs Rouse 2023
3,813 passing yards 49 touchdowns
Mason Shorb Mason Shorb 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Rouse | 2023 State TX has many D1 offers coming his way currently after being the 2021 District 13-5A Overall MVP. Shorb has arm talent for sure, the power and precision of his passes raise eyebrows! I remember seeing Shorb at the Fort Worth showcase and he was the main topic of conversation amongst fellow scouts! Heading into his senior year I expect Mason to run it back and be a top quarterback prospect in 2023.
