Continue ReadingRankings have been completed for classes 2022-2025, early signing day has passed, and we’ll be in the thick of the offseason soon. Over the next few weeks, we’ll dive back into the rankings to highlight the top prospects at each position still looking for a college program to call home.
BJ Blake BJ Blake 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB National Christian | 2022 State MDPhysically college ready DB at 6’2 190+lbs. Very patient while reading plays and reacts/plays with his eyes. Blake is a solid open field tackler who does a good job at protecting the edge in the screen game. He lines up at nickel and at free safety showing his versatility. He can lock down center field at safety and does a good job at covering slot receivers too. In the slot is where he recorded majority of his INT’s and pass deflections. When he gets the ball in his hands he knows exactly what to do with it.

Nigel Henderson Nigel Henderson 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Calvert Hall | 2022 State MD
Jet Henderson is a player who was on our radar through the cancelled 2020 season. He had solid film and a great 2021 off-season, winning the defensive MVP at the FBU camp in Texas. This season Henderson started corner for the Calvert Hall Cardinals helping them secure the MIAA (A) Championship. He was selected for the Maryland Crab Bowl All-Star game after his performance this season, showcasing the best players in the state regardless of division or league. Jet has very sharp technique from his feet to his hands while in coverage. I love that he plays the receiver with his eyes until he is in good position to turn and make a play on the ball, he stays in phase without panicking. He also uses the play through the ball technique as a weapon, which saves a lot of completions especially when in chase. He’s an asset on special teams, he can run down on kickoff coverage and was a talented return man for the Cardinals. Henderson can fill a lot of vacancies on a college programs roster, outside cornerback, safety, kick coverage and punt and kick return.

Phil Rawlins Phil Rawlins 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB St. John's | 2022 State MD
Offers: Monmouth
Phil Rawlings Senior Season Highlights – Hudl
Rawlins’s ball skills jump off the screen in his film, he covers a lot of ground, makes difficult catches and just fly’s around. His body control is impressive, while in the air he can still track the ball and change his body position in order to make a play on the ball. Rawlings is active in the run game; he comes down to fill holes and meets ball carriers at the line of scrimmage. He’s eager to get in on the action in the box which isn’t a common trait from a defensive back, he brings the boom behind his hits when he has the opportunity.
Darrell Scott Darrell Scott 5'10" | 150 lbs | DB Gwynn Park | 2022 State MD
“Gwynn Park HS ‘22 / Diamond Prep Academy ‘23. Class of 2023. DB, 5’10 160IBs, 40 time: 4.38, Vertical:37.” (players twitter)
Scott is a very fast, twitchy corner that brings a spark to the defensive side of the ball. Scott is very polished in man coverage and his speed just adds to his coverage ability and range. He’s no stranger to being out on an island, Darrell is always a standout at showcases and camps since the start of the 2021 offseason. With the ball in his hands Scott is a weapon, his speed alone is a threat for 6. He’s a talent special teams return man who is agile and can make defenders miss, which adds value to his contribution to any program. Darrell also plays some receiver; with his skillset, other than cornerback of course, he’d make a good fit for a slot receiver at the next level. Recently Scott was selected as a top prospect at the All-State Preps Showcase in PA, check it out below..

Dwane Cornwall Dwane Cornwall 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Reginald F. Lewis | 2022 MD | Reginald F. Lewis | 6’0 180lbs DB
Cornwall is a very underrated prospect who absolutely deserves to gift a program with his talents. He may be the best 2022 MD prospect never heard of. Dwane shows great ball skills and range in the defensive backfield, when the ball is in the air he goes and gets it. He has strong hands that help him make contested catches over one player, two players, and even diving which I was able to see in person. He shows the awareness to claw and chop at the ball when its exposed. The kid is an absolute playmaker, on offense, on defense, with or without the ball he finds a way to affect the outcome of the game. On the offensive side of the ball, he displays his breakaway speed and playmaking ability. He played receiver and wildcat quarterback for the Falcons, and it looks like they just needed to get the ball in his hands, he makes plays with his contested catch ability, elusiveness and speed. At 6’1 185lbs Cornwall is a steal at the next level.

Notable Mention:
Demetrius Harris Demetrius Harris 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Choptican | 2022 MDAt 6’3 190lbs and running a 4.55 40 Harris has the frame to become a valuable defensive piece at the next level. Harris patrols the middle of the field and demonstrates some great qualities for any secondary defender. He impressed in his film with a strip and score TD as well as a handful of INTs. He’s a player on the defense who is always around the ball. In pass defense he uses his length and speed to close on the ball from center field and make a play. In the run game he throws his body around on his tackles, I’d like to see more form in his tackles, but he gets the job done for a DB. He’s an instinctual DB, he shows good read and react timing, displays good ball skills, and closes in on the ball quick with his long strides. The thing that separates Harris the most is his size + athleticism. He’s mainly a defensive back but he shows that he knows what to do with the ball in his hands, he played kick return and receiver, giving him the opportunity to show what he can do. He’s a 6’3 that plays like a 6’6, using his size and strength to his advantage, running defenders over.
