It’s never too early to start thinking about the upcoming high school football season, right? The 2022 non-region schedule is impressive for the local schedules in York and Lancaster Counties that we’ve already received. The final week of non-region play is one you’ll want to pay attention to as two teams from the Upstate in Cherokee and Spartanburg Counties will visit teams in York County on the same Friday night, and anytime you face a team that comes from those areas, you’ll have your work cut out for you. Here’s the non-region games we can’t wait to see: Indian Land at Nation Ford (Aug. 19) Both teams made the playoffs last year and will open the 2022 season looking to go further this time. Michael Allen’s squad returns quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="91150" first="Carson" last="Black"] (@CarsonBlack12) who has a plethora of offers and will light up scoreboards again in 2022 with his arm. Kenan Bowman (@kenan_bowman) will stretch the field and can score anytime he touches it. For the Warriors, will Myles Stinson (@MylesStinson1) be the answer at quarterback? Jaden Peoples (@JadenPeoples_4) garnered All-Region honors for his play at defensive back as he can put the clamps down in one-on-one coverage. South Pointe at South Florence (Sept. 16) The defending 4A state champions will travel to the Pee Dee to wrap up non-region play in a game that was an instant classic last year – this time, South Pointe will have a new head coach. Jayce LeFlorce will likely be the starting quarterback for the Stallions, who is a capable dual threat. Caleb Sims (@Calebsims34) will not go down easily upon first contact and will be a focal point for the Stallion offense. [player_tooltip player_id="146356" first="LaNorris" last="Sellers"] (@LanorriSellers) returns for the Bruins after breaking his collarbone five games into the 2021 season – and he was lighting it up Dorman at Clover (Sept. 16) New coach Dustin Curtis takes over at Dorman as the Cavaliers will look for revenge from last year’s upset. Two future Division I linemen in [player_tooltip player_id="202774" first="DJ" last="Geth"] (@dj_geth) and [player_tooltip player_id="91355" first="Markee" last="Anderson"] (@MarkeeAnderson) will anchor things up front for the Dorman offensive line. For Clover, Omari Davis (@Omari_Davis12) was active on the defensive front in 2021 and this game will be a good test for him. Running back Elijah Farmer (@elijahfarmer13) will be a key factor for the Blue Eagles and it will be interesting to see who emerges at wide receiver for quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="202766" first="Joe" last="Boyd"] (@JoeBoyd123) with the graduation of [player_tooltip player_id="153265" first="Darius" last="Bowser"]. Gaffney at Northwestern (Sept. 16) The defending 5A state champions stunned the Trojans in the third round of the playoffs last year in Rock Hill. Indians’ quarterback and Duke commit [player_tooltip player_id="89340" first="Grayson" last="Loftis"] (@GrayQB12) returns after throwing for over 2,000 yards last year. Northwestern will be tasked with replacing quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"], and whoever ends up taking the reins for the Trojans will have a stiff test awaiting them to wrap up non-region play. But the Trojans will have plenty of firepower with receiver [player_tooltip player_id="146372" first="Elijah" last="Caldwell"] (@7Caldwell_) and running back [player_tooltip player_id="265222" first="Turbo" last="Richard"] (@TurboRichard1) returning. Chester at Catawba Ridge (Sept. 16) This game has intrigue because of the graduation of the No. 1 QB in the 2022 PRZ rankings in Chester quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="59469" first="Zan" last="Dunham"] and the transfer of former No. 1 QB in the 2024 PRZ rankings in Jadyn Davis, who departed Catawba Ridge to head to Providence Day in Charlotte. Nate Thomas (@natethomas04) is who we expect to take the snaps for the Copperheads, but who will start for Victor Floyd’s squad? The Copperheads will also have a battering ram at running back returning in [player_tooltip player_id="262619" first="Tyler" last="Jones"] (@TylerJones14_) (pictured) while the Cyclones return Shydem McCullough.
