This tournament is once a year in Houston, Texas. Check out below a list of the Wide Receivers I would like to spotlight for their performance.
1.Justin Herman 5’8″ 177 lbs Class of 2023 Montgomery HS / KB3 Elite 7v7
Simply put unguardable. Herman is the type of player you have to tackle right after he catches the ball or you will have a hard time catching him because he will be running to the Endzone or making your defenders fall. Herman has great speed that allows him to separate from defenders. Multiple times against multiple teams Herman was able to make big gains by catching the football and taking it to the other side of the football field without being touched until already downfield. Herman’s route-running ability stands out immediately along with his craftiness to set up defenders with secondary releases. Watching Justin at the Endzone 7v7 tournament was impressive but watching his Jr year highlight tape at Montgomery HS was even more special. Herman is a weapon for any offense and the total package at the slot receiver position.
2. Andre Thompson Andre Thompson 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR Manvel | 2024 State TX 5’8″ 153lbs Class of 2024 Manvel HS / CAT TAKEOVER 7v7
Thompson is Everything you can think of when you say the word electric. Thompson has the play-making ability to change the game in one play. Thompson has top speed combined with elite footwork. Thompson is skilled at running routes. He has a toolbox of press releases & secondary releases that he uses to create separation from defenders. Thompson is a wide receiver that might surprise you if you think that he doesn’t have the size to be a difference-maker. If that’s your first impression then just sit and watch the scoreboard and you’ll see how many Touchdowns he will put up against you. Thompson’s hands are legit. Deep bomb over-the-shoulder catches are something Thompson does with ease along with catching the ball away from his body. Thompson is a true spark to anyone’s offense.
3. Elijah White 5’9″ 160lbs Class of 2022 Avalon HS / Team ASG 7v7
At his core, White is a straight playmaker. White’s Shiftiness can be seen right away once the game begins. White at 5’9″ can step into the slot or be a go-to guy on the outside at receiver. White can run every route in the route tree and does not have any problem getting in and out of breaks. I liked how White did a great job of finding the zone when running his routes vs zone coverages. This tells me has good defensive recognition and has good awareness to adapt on the fly during his routes. One thing that impressed me was White’s ability to jump and go get the football out of the air.
4. Tavin stormer 6’2” 160lbs Class of 2024 Clear-Springs HS / Team DAB 7v7
Tavin is a Smooth tall framed Wide Receiver that has sudden quickness to separate from defenders. Stormer does a great job avoiding defenders when running deeper routes. Stormer doesn’t look like he has blazing speed but the long strider will surprise any defender if they are not careful. Stormer can catch almost any pass thrown at him. He is a true outside threat that defenses have to respect and cheat their safety over.
5. Abiel Gonzalez 5’7” 160lbs Class of 2024 Pearland Hs / Team DAB 7v7
Gonzalez is another one of the guys on this list that you do not want to sleep on because of his size. Gonzalez is a slot receiver who is excellent in the short & intermediate routes. He is fast enough to get in and out of breaks quickly and smoothly. It doesn’t take long for Gonzalez to hit his fastest gear once he has the ball in his hands. There’s always an opportunity for big yards after catch numbers once Gonzalez touches the football. Gonzalez’s attention to detail while running routes always seems to put him in the right position to be a QB’s favorite target or lifesaver when things don’t seem to go right.
6. Ladarrion Dean 5’6″ 125lbs Class of 2023 North Forney HS / Texas Phenoms 7v7
Speed and soft hands are what caught my eyes and stood out to me this past weekend watching Ladarrion Dean Dean is a twitchy speedster that can get in and out of breaks effortlessly. Dean can separate from defenders and can run every route in the book. Dean even with a smaller frame possesses the ability to outjump taller defenders for the football.
7. Kaden Millinder 6’2″ 165lbs Class of 2024 Braswell HS / PPT Elite 7v7
Kaden is a Class of 2024 Wide Receiver prospect with tremendous potential. Millinder has an amazing size and his catch range being 6’2″ covers a lot of space. Millinder is a deep ball / vertical threat that has to be respected. Millinder shows quickness at the line of scrimmage and a plethora of different releases to use against his defenders. Millinder also has good strong hands along with the ability to high point the football in the air. In the red zone Millinder will be a great weapon for anyone’s offense
