I will begin with the quarterbacks and move through the sections in numerical order. In this article, we take a look at New York’s Section VI. This section encompasses schools located in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties.
Colton Frerichs, Wilson-2025:
2021 saw the emergence of Freshman phenom Colton Frerichs. Frerichs led the Lakemen to a respectable 7-3 record in his first season under center. Heading into his second season at the helm, Colton is primed for a breakout season. With decent mobility and solid arm talent, Wilson’s quarterback situation is set for the next three seasons. Frerichs’s imminent growth this offseason has the potential to bloom into a long-lasting legacy at Wilson.
Danny Klein, Kenmore East-2024:
While Kenmore East’s 2021 season was far from what they had hoped for, there was a silver lining to their season. Despite spending much of the season behind Senior Gio Munisteri, young Danny Klein was able to show why the quarterback position is his to lose entering 2022. Klein passed for 552 yards, 4 touchdowns, and just a single interception while adding 80 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Danny displays all the tools necessary to turn the Bulldogs’ luck around. Klein’s size and dual-threat ability will allow him to develop into a dynamic playmaker for Kenmore East. The program as a whole enters next season seeking vengeance for their 0-8 2021 campaign. With Klein taking the reigns, a massive turn around is looming on the horizon.
Steve Otremba Jr., St. Francis-2023:
Entering the 2022 season, the Red Raiders are returning a two year starter at the quarterback position. Steve Otremba Jr. showed promise in the COVID shortened 2020 season, as well as his first full season in 2021. Steve passed for 1226 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions to go along with 153 yards and 4 touchdowns with his legs in 2021. While the numbers may not jump off the page, St. Francis finished with a 7-3 record and a playoff berth. The Red Raiders return a sizable number of starters for the 2022 season. Otremba Jr.’s experience in the St. Francis system will allow him the opportunity to flourish in his Senior season.
Antonio Davis, Canisius-2023:
Canisius enters 2022 with a major question mark at the quarterback position. Three-year starter, Tyler Baker Tyler Baker 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Canisius | 2022 State NY , graduates this spring leaving a massive void in the Crusaders’ lineup. In the past few weeks; however, there has been an interesting development. Former Bennett starting quarterback, Antonio Davis appears to have transferred to Canisius for the upcoming season. Davis will face an uphill battle as he will likely have to fight for the job. In his 18 games started for the Tigers, Davis amassed 2158 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions through the air while adding an additional 5 touchdowns on the ground. Antonio and the Crusaders have all the potential in the world to be one of the most potent offenses in the state this upcoming season. If Davis wins the starting job, expect a monstrous Senior season out of him in 2022.
