They all left it on the field and did what they could have to help their teams succeed. Potential is high for all of the listed and senior season should be something special for all!
David Nico David Nico 6'1" | 185 lbs | LB Heights | 2023 State TX – Heights
With excellent pursuit skills and play recognition, Nico is the player I would want manning down the defense. Nico has a good frame, and has the athletic ability to play in space and cover. He is physical backer who will take on blocks and disengage violently to make plays. Nico shows very good awareness and does now allow much to escape from his grasps.
Bryce McDonald – George Bush
McDonald played with tremendous speed at the linebacker position and used his hand very well especially when engaging with blockers. He played with a high motor and tackled very well in space. He showed to be a true athlete at that position. McDonald displayed recovery speed and a nose for the ball, whether it was stripping the ball away from opponents or a PBU. McDonald was a high energy guy who the team fed off when he made big plays and we look for that to continue next season.
Zander Winter – Pearland
Winter made the game look easy the way he shed blocks and made his way into the backfield. He showed very good skill with disengaging and keeping linemen off of his body with his reach. Winter made quick decisive moves to free himself to get to the ball carrier and take them down. He was a downhill player who could barely be stopped when he had a head of steam, and he excelled at making stops in the box. Winter can be a serious problem for offenses next season as he continues to get better.
Jackson Cody – Dawson
Cody was a gap shooter who took advantage of just a sliver of daylight if he saw it. He hit gaps full speed and could not be stopped when he made the move. Cody read running lanes and filled them correctly when he wasn’t blitzing the A gap. He showed to be a discipline player with great recognition and an explosive first step. Cody was physical at the point of attack and made play after play.
Cooper King Cooper King 5'10" | 215 lbs | LB Stratford | 2023 State TX – Stratford
King’s play was all out effort and motor. He flew to the ball on every play and did not let up. King shot gaps untouched and portrayed tremendous pursuit. He met ball carriers in the hole and drove them backwards. King showed very good lateral speed and quickness as well, not letting plays get outside of him. He took on blocks half body and shed them with ease on his way to a stop. He was very elusive when he had to be and was always around the ball. Look for him to continue his ways for his senior year.
