Continue ReadingThe role of a tight end is an inherently hybrid one that typically requires the player to be a receiving target in the passing game and an additional blocker in the rushing game.
It is not uncommon for a tight end to be better at blocking or receiving, but there are those who manage to dominate at both. Excelling at both seems to come with ease for the players listed below, making it no surprise that they are the state’s top-ranked tight ends in the 2023 class.
Andrew Metzger Andrew Metzger 6'4" | TE Regis Jesuit | 2023 State CO | Regis Jesuit | 6’5”, 235lbs
Metzger is the number one-ranked TE for good reason. He is an excellent route runner with great hands and towering size. His power and strength make him a difficult ball carrier to bring to the ground. He is a dominant blocker who moves his opponents out of the way using his strength, wide base, and quick feet. Metzger has garnered interest from a few big-name Division I programs and received offers from Nevada and Miami of Ohio.

Ty Pell Ty Pell 6'4" | 215 lbs | TE Cherry Creek | 2023 CO | Cherry Creek | 6’4”, 215lbs
Pell is an extremely talented TE who makes for an ideal option in the passing game because of his height and speed. He is a fast and physical player who is just as willing to seal the edge as a blocker as he is to slip up the seam and reel in a deep ball. Pell, the second-ranked TE, has gotten quite a bit of love from D-I programs, receiving offers from Arizona State and Northern Colorado.
Wow!! After a great call with @notoriousmax25 I’m blessed to have received an offer from the University of Northern Colorado!!! @UNC_BearsFB @armour223 @Alec_Pell @EliteSpeedSp @TaylorSheridan_ @coach_askew @pelldadof3 @CCNextLevelFB @parkerpell26 pic.twitter.com/JeECZpMulM

Jesiah Stevens-Silva Jesiah Stevens-Silva 6'3" | 205 lbs | TE Fountain-Fort Carson | 2023 State CO | Fountain-Fort Carson | 6’3”, 210lbs
Stevens-Silva, the third-ranked TE, is a phenomenal athlete with a versatile set of skills. He is a speedy player with superb abilities to gain yards after the catch by powering through tackles and out-running defenders. His ability to win as a blocker comes from his strength, power, and determination to keep his feet moving. Stevens-Silva has been turning heads in the recruiting world and garnering quite a bit of attention from college programs, but he has yet to receive an official offer.

Jadon Williams Jadon Williams 6'2" | 225 lbs | TE Lutheran | 2023 State CO | Lutheran | 6’2”, 225lbs
Williams is a receiving TE who can stretch the field with his long strides. He does a great job at tracking the ball in the air and making contested catches. He is a physical player who initiates contact, especially when the ball is in his hands. Williams, the fourth-ranked TE, has not received an official offer so far, but he has been receiving looks from the majority of the D-I programs in the state.

DeAndre Horn DeAndre Horn 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Rock Canyon | 2023 State CO | Rock Canyon | 6’4”, 215lbs
Horn is the fifth-ranked TE who is a little more of an under-the-radar type of player than most of the others on this list, but expect that to change very soon. He is a powerful runner with great speed who can line up tight or out wide. His explosiveness off of the line and phenomenal ability to go up and make high-pointed catches in traffic is borderline elite. He is the type of player that coaches find ways to get the ball in his hands to let him make plays. Horn’s recruiting is in its earliest stages, but it will come as no surprise when the offers start to roll in.
