Cameron Dyer, La Cueva: Is Dyer the next big Metro Albuquerque quarterback? Well, he’ll likely have to compete with Cleveland’s Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB West Mesa | 2024 State NM for that title. For now, he’ll be the backup to Aidan Armenta Aidan Armenta 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB La Cueva | 2023 State NM in 2022 before taking over as the starter in 2023. We saw Dyer live for the first time last weekend at the 7-on-7 jamboree and he showed the arm talent we expected. He’s also a BIG guy, standing at least 6-foot-3. That means he could be 6-5 or 6-6 by the time he’s senior.

Lee Miller, Bernalillo: The Spartans have produced some outstanding defensive talent over the past few years, and Miller could be the major contributor in 2022. Last season he has 23 tackles, 6 TFL and 3 sacks. That’s very good production from a freshman.
Austin Stegall, Aztec: As a freshman, Stegall had 24 tackles and a team-high 3 interceptions for a balanced Aztec defense. Stegall showed in 2021 that he is a promising playmaker on defense.
Cannon Walton, Raton: Walton contributed in three ways to the Raton offense in 2021. As the backup quarterback, he attempted 20 TD and threw for 3 TD. As a running back, he had 137 yards rushing and averaged more than 10 yards per carry. Finally, as a receiver, he caught 4 passes, two of which were for TDs. He should see an enlarged role in 2022.
Jonathan Gonzales, West Las Vegas: Listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Gonzales emerged as one of the top young defensive ends in Class 3A. He had 46 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an impressive 3 forced fumbles. WLV could be a major threat in Class 3A next season and Gonzales will be a Player to Watch on the Dons’ defense.
Marcos Lucero, Estancia: Another young promising defensive player. He collected 39 tackles and 6 TFL in 2021
Xavier Nez, Navajo Prep: Navajo Prep reached the Class 3A playoffs with contributions of many, one of whom was Nez. He caught 10 passes for 177 yards, an average of 17.7 yards per reception, and 2 TD.
Nathaniel Gonzales, Robertson: Younger twin brother to Cardinals QB Matthew Gonzales Matthew Gonzales 5'5" | QB Robertson | 2022 State NM , Nathaniel caught 10 passes for 158 yards and returned kickoffs. His twin, RB Jesse James Gonzales, rushed for over 800 yards as a freshman in 2021. Between Nathaniel and Jesse James, the Gonzales family legacy will continue at Robertson.
Tommy Lopez, Portales: He was the third leading tackler for the Rams with 50, including 2 TFL from his defensive back spot.
Ronnie Gilletti, Hope Christian: A big DB (6-0, 175 pounds), Gilletti registered 34 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries for the Huskies, who advanced the quarterfinals of the 3A playoffs. But they return several key pieces in 2022 and Gilletti is one of them.
